StrongBad is BACK
With a new email and new April Fool's tomfoolery.
I admit, I was always a fan of the Brothers Chaps. The reason I'm sharing here...they make funny side digs at Google+, Apple, and the Internet of Things. It's the best!

I'm still a fan of +Foursquare
Have you really tried the app since its reinvention? Like really took it for a discovery run? If not, you should.

I typically rely on Foursquare for my discovery, and Yelp if I really need to find out the reviews. Yeah, I still Swarm because I like collecting stickers and competing with friends, but Foursquare's discovery and recommendation engine is pretty legit. And now they're building real-world rewards into the system.

I actually really love the Expertise feature, where you can earn more visibility in your local area for types of places or geographic areas that you frequent. (For example, I have expertise in food trucks, because I frequent them more than I care to admit, and leave tips for others.)

Download it and take it for a run again. Then get back to me on what you think. Really.

New video series for marketers
Whether you're in the UK or not, this will be a cool series to keep up with. +Mike McGrail at +Velocity Digital LTD is starting a new #VelocityTV  web series.

In it, Mike reports on the latest news in the marketing world (and I'm totally with him, rallying against the term smarketing). He'll also be discussing useful marketing tools in the Tool Time segment, this week featuring +Trello, one of my favorite productivity apps.

And for those of you looking for book recommendations, Mike also tosses as shoutout to +Phil Barden for his book Decoded. Sounds like an interesting read. And he's coining the term #bookage. Love it.

This is the first episode, but I'm excited to see where Mike takes the series! Help him out with some feedback to keep it interesting.

Email marketing success: easy as A, B, see (results)!
The strength of your marketing has a lot to do with the strength of your email list. Your relationship with customers that subscribe to your messages is something you should be following every best practice to maintain.

One way to maintain your list is always be testing. Along with these 5 "Do's" below, check out some very important "Don'ts" here: http://buff.ly/15lG4PB

What would you add to these best practices? Will you be doing anything differently to maintain your email list in 2015?

Is your content lacking a little something?
A recent frustrating situation one of my friends dealt with inspired me to write a new post about content marketing. In the world of impending Content Shock, your content cannot be vanilla, plain, or boring.

Read the post here: http://ctt.ec/xYi5d+

Who's with me? Let's take a stand against vanilla content and write things that get people riled up, that start real conversations, that go against a status quo of boring.

Some shout outs to +Mark Schaefer and +Jay Baer in this post, too. Thanks for inspiring great content, gentlemen.

*Learn to create content like a boss with the #ArtOfSocial *
Today is the release date for The Art of Social, the new book from +Guy Kawasaki and +Peg Fitzpatrick!
I had the opportunity to take an advanced look at it, and collected my thoughts in a blog post today.Whether you're new to creating content, or a seasoned content machine, you'll find some worthwhile tips and tricks in this book.

My personal recommendation is to opt for the digital version, because you'll have access to TONS of useful links that the physical copy won't offer you.

Definitely a worthwhile read for marketers!

In this video +Amy Schmittauer explains:

Get behind the scenes at +MarketingProfs
Today's the day! I'll be chatting with +Stephan Hovnanian and +Ben Fisher about how MarketingProfs started using Google+, giving some insight on content strategy, and generally nerding out about marketing.
Please join us for the finale of this great series!

G+ Spotlight Finale (2014-12-10)
When I realized Google+ would be my social network of choice, and then when Reader was killed, it became a personal goal to encourage my favorite blogs, publishers, and authorities to start using Google+ so I could follow them here (this is Stephan talking by the way).

It took some nudging, but one of my favorite sources for quality marketing content, +MarketingProfs , finally got on the G+ train and has been doing a fantastic job engaging with their community of PRO members and followers.

In the show's finale, we welcome MarketingProfs' +Rob Zaleski into the hot seat to talk about how they were able to add YASN (Yet Another Social Network) to an already robust social presence. We'll touch on their strategies, content calendar, and you'll get some tips about how to ease (or encourage) clients into adopting G+.

Please help us spread the word about our final Google+ Business Spotlight show by sharing, inviting, and tweeting using the #gplusspotlight  hashtag (http://ctt.ec/y7W2h)

And thank you wholeheartedly for your support this past year!!
This Hangout On Air is hosted by GPLUSSPOTLIGHT. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

Give me all your coffee and croissants. I needed a spot that offered wifi and would warm me up during my short stay in Boston all the way from Austin, TX. This spot didn't disappoint in the slightest. The coffee is quality, the croissants are huge, and the staff is really friendly. The atmosphere is pretty open, and though there's a high ceiling and cement floor, the noise isn't too distracting. I highly recommend this spot for anyone staying at the Westin Waterfront that would rather support local than Sbux.

This tiny spot is always worth the wait. I actually recommend trying to get a seat at the counter and watch these masters at work. It's crazy to see how smoothly everyone works seamlessly to keep the food coming. The specialty pancakes never disappoint, the service is always friendly, and the coffee is good. You may have to wait a half hour or so because it doesn't seat many people. The coziness is part of Counter's appeal, though.

Really tasty breakfast tacos for super cheap! Perfect for a Sunday morning because there's a drive-thru and you don't even have to change out of your pajamas. The chips are thick but cheap. Don't let a long line dissuade you. They move quickly. Definitely put this spot on your list if you live on the south side.

Gluttony at its fried, flaky best. This ain't health food, but if you need something greasy and tasty, this is it. I've never had deep fried deviled eggs. They were *almost* too much. Almost. Also, they have a decent selection of local beers to accompany your delicious fried goodness.

This very unassuming spot is worth finding. It's right between Fado and Cedar Room, and the sign isn't super conspicuous. It has a dark, mellow atmosphere inside, but they specialize in Cuban food and rum drinks. The bartenders are all pretty cool and happy to chat a bit if the bar isn't too busy. Haven't had the food yet, but others in the bar were raving. Check this spot for a good cocktail and conversation with friends.

Brunch here. Do it. I'm going to recommend the beef tongue hash. Don't let yourself get weirded out by that. It's not a slab of tongue on a plate. It's a savory mix of falling apart meat and crispy potatoes. Warning: it can be a bit salty. I coupled it with the pecan bread and caramel sauce and it was a perfect combo. The Moscow Mules are tart but satisfying. A great spot for brunch, especially if you can get covered seating outside.

This tiny little spot is the truest version of a mom and pop shop. The owners stop by the tables to check on you, make jokes, and truly care about your experience. I recommend getting a combination of savory first, then sweet. You'll leave full and your tastebuds will be happy. I'll definitely be back. Again, it is small, so expect to be cozy and for it to be a little loud.
