What skills do great social media marketers possess?
Along with 10 other smarties, I had the opportunity to weigh in on what skills are critical to social media marketing success. Are there any you'd add?

What Characteristics do you need to be a Great Social Media Marketer?

Is there a magic personality or skill that you need to be a great social media marketer?

In this article from eClincher 11 marketers give their take on the most important characteristics.

+Neal Schaffer says he thinks "the most prominent habit is being able to focus". I'd agree with him on that one... err what were we talking about? Sorry, bad joke! Seriously being able to focus is very important and not getting too distracted with all the shiny new toys!

+Jenn Herman says it's the "true understanding of customer service".

+Neil Patel said "Consistency".

+Ted Rubin mentioned "Looking People in the Eye Digitally".

The characteristic I came up with was having "attention to detail".

Probably my favourite one was from +Rob Zaleski who said "The best social media marketers make a habit of getting away from their desk". Not a skill you'd expect, but one that is vital if we're not all to lose all hope of creativity.

Which means, once you've read the article, you're going to go off for a walk and take a break! ;-)

This guy never ceases to amaze me
I think this might be one of his best to date. He also did a full version of it in the +Green Day style, which I also recommend.
Kudos, +Ten Second Songs. Another masterpiece.

The holidays are coming, like it or not.
And retail spending is expected to increase by 4.1% over last year, according to the +National Retail Federation. As B2B marketers, what the heck can we do to compete with our B2C brethren?

This free +MarketingProfs webinar I'm moderating tomorrow with +Jamie Bradley from +Emma, Inc. will explain exactly that. This won't be some boring webinar, either. Jamie is a rockstar with a great presentation style, and we will plan to have some fun while helping you prepare to compete with the onslaught of emails in your audience's inboxes.

Let's do this, B2B marketers. Let's see some awesome success this year. You can send me some fruitcake when you see those open rates and click-throughs climb. :)

Can we meet in person in Boston? Please read this whole post.
Yo. I'm going to be in Boston October 20-23 for +MarketingProfs  B2B Marketing Forum. I'd love to see you there, and I can totally hook you up with $200 off the going rate. Head to: http://mprofs.com/robftw and use promo code ROBFTW

If you can't make it to the event, I'm also going to be straight up chillin' just northeast of Cambridge the weekend following the event Oct 24-25, and would love to meet some other Boston marketers while there. (I'm also taking any and all suggestions on where I should make sure to visit while in town).

So, event or otherwise, let's be homies in person, yeah?

+Savvy Sexy Social Bad news: I had to revisit this video because I completely forgot to do this (and how to do it). Good news is, I found out that you can still upload a custom thumbnail after it goes live by clicking the time stamp, which takes you to the standalone post with the edit options. Also, do you know about the Featured Video option? I just discovered it as an option on video posts. It pops it up to a bigger preview when someone goes to your list of videos. :)

Rehashing and old post, in case you need it
It's that time of year, when turkey images adorn marketing collateral across the web. And, helpful as always, +PicMonkey shows you how to make a fun, quirky turkey graphic.

What do marketers DO?
In my latest video project for +MarketingProfs, we asked friends and family if they knew what we do for a living, or what marketing even is. Hilarity ensued.
Does your family understand what you do?

Ever feel like people don't 'get' what you do?
We understand the feeling, and we made a video about it!!
Check it out: http://buff.ly/1iknT2K

Even our close friends and family don't have much of an idea what we do as marketers. If you asked yours, would they be able to articulate it? Can you?

We invite you to hang out with people who do get you. Your people. At B2B Marketing Forum in Boston, October 20-23. Learn more about the event and register here: http://buff.ly/1iknT2N

Give me all your coffee and croissants. I needed a spot that offered wifi and would warm me up during my short stay in Boston all the way from Austin, TX. This spot didn't disappoint in the slightest. The coffee is quality, the croissants are huge, and the staff is really friendly. The atmosphere is pretty open, and though there's a high ceiling and cement floor, the noise isn't too distracting. I highly recommend this spot for anyone staying at the Westin Waterfront that would rather support local than Sbux.

This tiny spot is always worth the wait. I actually recommend trying to get a seat at the counter and watch these masters at work. It's crazy to see how smoothly everyone works seamlessly to keep the food coming. The specialty pancakes never disappoint, the service is always friendly, and the coffee is good. You may have to wait a half hour or so because it doesn't seat many people. The coziness is part of Counter's appeal, though.

Really tasty breakfast tacos for super cheap! Perfect for a Sunday morning because there's a drive-thru and you don't even have to change out of your pajamas. The chips are thick but cheap. Don't let a long line dissuade you. They move quickly. Definitely put this spot on your list if you live on the south side.

Gluttony at its fried, flaky best. This ain't health food, but if you need something greasy and tasty, this is it. I've never had deep fried deviled eggs. They were *almost* too much. Almost. Also, they have a decent selection of local beers to accompany your delicious fried goodness.

This very unassuming spot is worth finding. It's right between Fado and Cedar Room, and the sign isn't super conspicuous. It has a dark, mellow atmosphere inside, but they specialize in Cuban food and rum drinks. The bartenders are all pretty cool and happy to chat a bit if the bar isn't too busy. Haven't had the food yet, but others in the bar were raving. Check this spot for a good cocktail and conversation with friends.

Brunch here. Do it. I'm going to recommend the beef tongue hash. Don't let yourself get weirded out by that. It's not a slab of tongue on a plate. It's a savory mix of falling apart meat and crispy potatoes. Warning: it can be a bit salty. I coupled it with the pecan bread and caramel sauce and it was a perfect combo. The Moscow Mules are tart but satisfying. A great spot for brunch, especially if you can get covered seating outside.

This tiny little spot is the truest version of a mom and pop shop. The owners stop by the tables to check on you, make jokes, and truly care about your experience. I recommend getting a combination of savory first, then sweet. You'll leave full and your tastebuds will be happy. I'll definitely be back. Again, it is small, so expect to be cozy and for it to be a little loud.
