It's been an interesting adventure at home, getting phone calls intended for my mom. I love playing with telemarketers ... but this morning, "Jordan" from "Microsoft" called to tell me that my computer was infected and that I needed to see those files by issuing the "inf" command (which actually shows files used in installation, not those that are "infected", which "Jordan", from "Microsoft" should have known ...). He wanted me to go to a website where a "senior technician" would work with me to remove those infected files (and do God knows what else to my mom's computer).

He assured me that I didn't need to "check with my son who does all my computer work" before doing this, since he was "from Microsoft" and that if my son uses the computer, he may actually be responsible for those infected files on my computer.

I had some choice words for him, having lowered my voice throughout the call so he would have to listen closely. He said that he had turned his volume up all the way and that I needed to speak more loudly. Trust me, I did. And very clearly.

Warn your parents that Microsoft won't call.

The Marmots and Me: The Schoolboy, 8, Who Has Struck Up a Remarkable Friendship with a Colony of Alpine Animals

A beautiful story about animals and mankind. Very sweet. All the pictures at the link are incredible...

They are notoriously shy around humans, beating their tails and chattering their teeth to try to warn us off before emitting loud whistles to tell other members of their colony to flee.

But when these alpine marmots see Matteo Walch, they scuttle to his side and show him nothing but affection. The eight-year-old built up a remarkable relationship with the creatures since first being taken to see them by his nature-loving family four years ago.

The family return to visit the colony in Groslocker in the Austrian Alps for two weeks every year. Matteo’s mother Michaela said: "Their friendship has lasted for more than four years now. He loves those animals and they are not at all afraid of Matteo because he has a feeling towards them and they understand that."

Vinyl Record Lovers Will Get This

Digital fans may shrug and go - Meh. But vinyl record lovers and collectors will see the flowing peaks and valleys representing sounds as reflections of art. The words "graceful" "ebullience" and "joy" will leap to the mind. Ah, vinyl. Those lush notes, those engulfing sounds, that deep warmth. Most assuredly not digital.

Excellent care from the staff, throughout the office - from reception, billing, technicians, and Dr. Gotvald. Clear explanations of medical terms, never (for a moment) felt rushed when asking questions or wanting information about options. They worked closely with my insurance provider to get coverage after an initial denial. Delighted with the care and the results. It's not often I can give a completely positive review, but this would clearly be one of those times. Highly recommended.
