While you were all too busy worrying about an election that's still I over a year away...

With Chinese vessels apparently given orders to harass and ram Vietnamese ships, Philippine aircraft conducting provocative flights near disputed reclaimed Chinese island military bases, and Washington laying the groundwork in the event that China declares a zone of protection in the Spratly Islands, misperceptions and miscalculations are a terrifyingly real prospect. Rarely in history have great powers provoked a war that they knew would be a long and protracted affair. The Chinese will only start a fight that they know will be either short or reasonably low-impact. John Kerry deserves credit for making clear that any conflict in the region will be a high-risk proposition for China, but Washington will need to remain vigilant for the foreseeable future if military conflict is to be prevented indefinitely.
Those who thought the South China Sea crisis was resolved were disappointed to see tensions escalate last week.

Not only is it a firewall, it is also built-in antivirus! Sliced-up cabling was never so capable.

Think a $15 an hour minimum wage would raise a Big Mac only 17 cents in price? You'd be flat out wrong and here's why.

In the short term, the price of a Big Mac would rise from $3.99 to $5.50. A Big Mac meal would go from $5.69 to $7.85. That takes a much larger bite out of consumers’ wallets than a 17-cent hike. Moreover, this money won’t come from “the rich.” Warren Buffett and Bill Gates don’t spend much on fast food. Low- and middle-income Americans would bear the brunt of the higher prices.

In the longer term, fast-food restaurants would almost certainly react by replacing humans with machines. McDonald’s is already experimenting with replacing cashiers with kiosks. California inventors have developed a robot that cooks 360 hamburgers an hour. Mandating higher wages guarantees restaurants will implement this technology more quickly and automate more jobs than they otherwise would. That will mean lower prices, but fewer entry-level jobs.
A Purdue University study shows that $15-an-hour fast-food wages would raise fast-food prices by only 4 percent. It's wrong.

Typical margins for a McDonald's franchise are 6%, though some are much lower.  Bear in mind that when you're talking about fast food,  the profit margins you are affecting aren't megacorporations like McDonald's, but what are essentially small businesses.

The FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's unsecured email account is not just a fact-finding venture — it’s a criminal probe, sources told The Post on Wednesday....

Good. She is amazingly corrupt and doesn't care that we can see it.

Introduction
I'm a systems engineer and open source software developer from Central Florida.

Language note: I am only fluent in English.  I can read a couple of other languages with limited fluency, but I'm not likely to circle you if you don't speak English.  Sorry.

Why did I circle you? I read something you posted and determined that you are an interesting person, that we have common interests, or you are someone I could learn from.  Quite possibly all three.

You do not have to circle me back, but please feel free to do so if you like.

Pretty good coffee, they roast their beans on-site. Their espresso machine is an Astra, and they grind with a Mazzer Mini. They pull nice shots. Their roasting services are excellent. Highly recommended for the home barista crowd.

"A Google User" above is wrong. I was just there this morning. This place exists, but the map marker was completely wrong. It's on US 19, not on Troublecreek near Grand. This location is quick and efficient and they handle walk-ins well.

Not bad. The room was very clean, the common areas were also very clean. Service was excellent. the free high speed internet was acceptable. Unlike other hotels in the LaQuinta chain I have stayed in, there were no laundry facilities, no office facilities and no exercise room. The breakfast was substandard as well. They advertised hot waffles -- yeah, Eggos. Give me a break. _Every_ LaQuinta I have stayed at has had a Belgian waffle maker, but not this one. The breakfast dining area was also too small. OTOH, my room came equipped with a brand new HDTV, an oversized mini fridge, microwave and a very decent desk. Comments here about smells or cleanliness or shady characters hanging out in the lobby were unwarranted. Beaches were not far -- U.S. 1 is only about 5 miles from the hotel.
