+Elijah Johannson (I hope I have the correct tag, since YouTube isn't letting me reply directly) - If you're offended, that's unfortunate. As a member of the Deaf community, I am not alone in my frustrations that our cherished language is belittled by those who think it's "cool" to learn a few signs and then to announce to the world that "ASL is so easy and so simplistic that anyone can teach it or learn it. Here, I'll show you." And then they do a horrific job of butchering a beautiful, complex, and unique language by demonstrating incorrect random signs without any grammar or any foundation for which to base language upon. So, as an active member of the Deaf community who DAILY promotes ASL and the Deaf (accurately of course), you can bet that I will continue to encourage interested people to learn accurate ASL and to learn about the Deaf culture and the Deaf ourselves rather than learning wrong signs and incorrect information and misconceptions from those who have no clue what they're doing.

What is embarrassing is YOU. Calling me, a Deaf person who cherishes my language and culture and works hard to teach it accurately and encourage others accurately, arrogant and rude? Shame on you. I work tirelessly to advocate ASL. And you? What are you doing?

As for offering critiques of the THOUSANDS of videos and websites out there that teach ASL incorrectly... you have got to be kidding me. Even if that was a full time job, I could never even begin to make a dent in that. Sorry, but I have bills to pay and mouths to feed. So this video serves a very good purpose. Just because you don't like it does not make me arrogant or boastful. How about you make it your full time job to critique all those videos. Let me know how it goes.

Hey gang! A new ASL Snippets video is ready for your enjoyment. With Super Bowl 48 just around the corner, this video focuses on the big game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. Who are you rooting for?

Finally finished. Whew! Takes a LONG time for a high-quality video to upload, even with a fast connection. Now that Ryan Moriarty is no longer profiteering off the Deaf and Curious.com has asked me to post sign language lessons on their website, be the first to check out my "introduction" video!

+barbara forrest-ball I can't seem to reply directly to your question. So I'll type my response here - "Dirty Signs with Kristin" is pure garbage. It would be like me taking dirty English phrases and looking up the individual English words in a French dictionary. The grammar is English, the structure and concept are English, but the words are French (and often used incorrectly and out of context). Kristin is a jerk who is also capitalizing on her unfortunate popularity to try and make money - she had a book of "dirty signs" published. The Deaf community is furious with her and we collectively view her as scum.

+Carolyn Best +Artemis Logic I'm "stealing traffic" because I don't like the fact that Kate is pretending that she knows my language well enough to teach it? Oh the horrors! Shame on me indeed for caring enough about ASL to want it to be taught (and learned) ACCURATELY. Shame on me for taking the time and effort to create dozens of FREE videos for people who truly want to learn ASL the right way. Shame on me for taking a stand against countless individuals like Kate who have no respect for my culture or my language and create videos like this to "show off" something that they know nothing about. Shame on me, a member of a minority culture that is constantly disrespected by an ignorant majority culture for standing up in defense of our language - which happens to be a core, and cherished, part of who and what we are. Shame on me indeed.

Or... rather... shame on you. Shame on you for your false, ignorant, and unfounded accusations. I challenge you to look past Kate's physical looks and (apparently) pretty music playing in the background and recognize this for what it is - a video that is FULL of errors and misinformation put out by a young lady who really doesn't have the slightest clue as to what she is doing and because she is earning around $100 a month in free money from YouTube from all the views she's getting on this video, it's not likely she'll remove this video any time soon.

Shame on Kate for profiteering (look that word up) off the Deaf for her own personal gain rather than doing the morally correct thing and remove this video.

It's exciting to see so many people who are fascinated with learning ASL (American Sign Language).

It's also very unfortunate that there are a lot of videos out there like this one that don't teach real sign language, but rather just a list of signs (that is NOT what ASL is). In addition, Kate's signs are done wrong. I know it is frustrating for a hearing person to put the time and effort into trying to learn to sign correctly only to find out afterward that what they thought they were learning was right... wasn't.

Is Kate beautiful? Sure. She does have a very nice face and it's apparent from reading through the comments that a lot of people (guys especially) are very enamored with her beauty. Beauty does not equal knowledge or accuracy.

Knowledge and experience, along with learning from a FLUENT signer who is also Deaf and certified to teach ASL is a great way to learn to sign correctly. So, although I'm not beautiful, I am accurate and I can promise you the signs that you learn from me will actually be understood by Deaf people you would meet. So give it a try, check out my channel, especially my "Sign Language Lessons - ASL Snippets" playlist. Here is the link:
