Not apple, but my tomato plants are still growing and developing new flowers while they're already heavy with fruit.

that's a long list- and doesn't make sense to me that as humans we aren't evolved to eat red meat ( which according to WHO includes beef pork lamb goat). http://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/pr/2015/pdfs/pr240_E.pdf

University of Toronto researchers create vitamin powered battery
http://www.cantechletter.com/2016/08/university-toronto-researchers-create-vitamin-powered-battery/

When their mothers told these guys to take their vitamins, they had no idea it would end up like this. A team of researchers from the University of Toronto have created a battery that uses vitamin B2, commonly know as riboflavin, as a cathode. Why you ask? According to the senior author of the paper …

Interesting concept

Plants Sense Being Eaten, and They Don't Like It

So you say you're a vegetarian or vegan for moral reasons, because plants don't suffer?  Well, actually, they do.

Experiments carried out last year by researchers from the University of Missouri demonstrated that plants can not only sense when they're being eaten, but can even take chemical countermeasures to try to prevent it from happening.

While this may or may not constitute pain as we animals understand it, it is clear enough that this is a form of suffering, and that the plants don't enjoy it anymore than we would.

There may be exceptions to this, as the research was only carried out on a single species, the thale cress (a relative of broccoli).  It seems unlikely, for example, that fruits mind being eaten, as very often their purpose is precisely to be eaten to spread seed through droppings.

Nonetheless, this should give pause to anyone making the moral argument for not eating animals.  Just because you can't see or hear something suffering, doesn't mean that it isn't.

I made these cages a few years ago to protect my blueberries from the birds, rabbits, and deer. They work great, just 3ft farm fencing wrapped in chicken wire, much better than messing with netting.
