DUBLIN — Ireland appeared poised to become the world’s first nation to approve same-sex marriage by a popular vote on Saturday, with early vote counts showing strong and broad support for a measure that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago in what had traditionally been a Roman Catholic stronghold.
Opinion polls and high turnout in urban areas favored a yes vote on the referendum, which would make Ireland the first nation to approve same-sex marriage by popular vote.

If there was any doubt about the pace at which acceptance of gay rights is taking root in societies around the world, consider Ireland.
Irish voters will decide Friday whether to legalize same-sex marriage, and the referendum’s very existence is a measure of the Roman Catholic Church’s waning power in the country.

"Mad Men died as it lived: showing us all the destructive ways characters — people! we ourselves! — repeat behavioral patterns, and how those patterns tend to mutate in surprising ways; how hard it is truly to know and be known by others; and how "newness" is often just a rediscovery of an old idea."

" ... in a corner of Europe hardly thought of as a bastion of liberalism, like Sweden or the Netherlands. In spite of opposition from the Roman Catholic and Presbyterian churches, from Islamic leaders and conservative civic groups, surveys of public opinion consistently show more than 70 percent in favor of the government’s starkly simple proposal to add a line to the Irish Constitution: 'Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.'”
On gay rights, at least, the Irish have moved far from traditional church teaching.

"Yoga’s potential to boost your body’s flexibility, strength, and even posture is pretty well known. What’s only now beginning to be explored is yoga’s effect on how the human brain processes and manages pain. At a recent medical conference, researchers presented evidence to suggest that practitioners of yoga not only improve their physical well-being, but may, in fact, be turning back the clock when it comes to the neurological effects of chronic pain."
New research explores a possible link between doing yoga and growing brain tissue.

“It’s gone from marginal to trendy,” said Susan Stryker, an associate professor at the University of Arizona, of the study of gender identity. Earlier this year , Ms. Stryker started TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly, the first publication of its kind.

The road has been long and hard.
With an ever growing number of ordinary Americans coming out, the community is starting to shed its stigma.

Prior to VIA, Rob worked with agencies in London & Boston including Munro & Forster, Cone, Feinstein Kean Healthcare, and Lehman Millet.
