"This isn't another story about that dress, or at least, not really."

"It's about the way that humans see the world and how until we have a way to describe something, even something so fundamental as a color, we may not even notice that it's there."
This isn't another story about that dress, or...

New "Social Social" +MaineTodaydotcom | Looking for life after death? | How to set a Facebook 'legacy contact'

Today's themes are: Post-mortem issues, creepiness, and the afterlife.
Not too long ago I was quite taken aback when Facebook suggested I send birthday greetings to a friend — who had recently died. It all seemed so creepy and disturbing. Of course, I'm not the only one who has had this experience. More than 30 million Facebook members have died, creating all kinds of post-mortem issues.

"The Orono-based PelletCo and Portland-based Alodyne have pioneered new financing methods that have customers pay for heat energy, rather than paying for fuel, while their companies lease the heating units to the building owners."
PORTLAND, Maine — Plummeting oil prices this winter changed the economics of switching off the fuel, but at least two companies in Maine are seeking to change the economics of heating itself. The Orono-based PelletCo and Portland-based Alodyne have pioneered new financing methods that have customers pay for heat energy, [...]

"Why is it that 'you’re welcome,' a phrase that is meant to be gracious, is often tinged with gloat? It wasn’t always so double-edged."
What was once an authentic response to “thank you” has come to mean something more sinister.

Social Social +MaineTodaydotcom | 7 dining options Portland seriously needs | By +Brett Willis

This is a repeat but the post is so good that it's definitely worth it. Thank you Brett.

Today's themes are: Vitamin D deficiency, rooftop biergartens, and dreams of a better Portland
But just before we begin, if you’re wondering why this post is here in the social section, I can explain. I want to harness the very power of the Internet (AKA social media) to help make Portland a foodier paradise. Hopefully this little list will get the discussion going, leading to some real, tangible and delicious changes here in Portland, Maine.

Meet Mr. Mucus, the green, wet ball of snot who has been the face of decongestant brand Mucinex since 2004.
He’s the slimiest, ickiest brand mascot there is, and now he’s the illest guy on Twitter too. Meet Mr. Mucus.

Rob Gould is an advertising geek, social media nomad, pop culture junky, trend spy, art dabbler, mainetoday.com blogger, talker, TEDxer, skeptical optimist. Independent digital marketing, social & earned media consultant | Writer
Introduction
Rob Gould works as a consultant to agencies, brands, and individuals. In addition to his work as an independent consultant, he serves, in a pro bono capacity, as PR/communications director with TEDxDirigo. He also is a blogger for the mainetoday.com.

He's also interested in full- or part-time opportunities and is open to the possibility of relocation.

He has over 20 years of marketing experience.

From 2005-2011, Rob served as director of social media & agency communications at The VIA Agency.

In 2011, VIA was named Advertising Age's Small Agency of the Year. Rob played an integral role in VIA's efforts to earn this distinction. He also did other things. He can discuss most of them without using profanity. Rob loves VIA. A lot.

Prior to VIA, Rob worked with agencies in London & Boston including Munro & Forster, Cone, Feinstein Kean Healthcare, and Lehman Millet. He began his career in the office of communications at Deaconess Hospital (now Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center), a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.

Rob's client experience includes Samsung (campaign), Dunkin' Donuts, Welch's (campaign), Lands' End, Hugo Boss, Swiss Army Brands, HP Hood, North American Breweries (campaign), Tiffany & Co., Barbor, Discover Card (campaign), Lojack, IBM, Warner Lambert UK (Listerine, Benedryl, Sudafed & Calpol), Glaxo Wellcome, Novartis, Amgen, Silverstein Properties, and The New York Academy of Sciences.

Pro bono experience includes TEDxDirigo, The Steppingstone Foundation, The Salvation Army (campaign), and the Portland Museum of Art.

Rob is a Boston native, or more specifically Manchester, MA. He currently splits his time between Portland, ME and NYC.

Rob is a a graduate of the University of Vermont.

His real-life interests include art, travel, books & movies (because "literature & film" sounds pretentious), medical anthropology (because that doesn't sound pretentious at all), the beach, and various form of exercise, albeit grudgingly at times.
