So....  Synergy is ... um, YouTube?
It probably was too much to hope for actual holograms.  I had visions of a Hatsune Miku style approach where the on stage singing could have been tremendously stylized and interesting.  So no artificial intelligence.  No augmented reality.  No holograms.  But no Misfits?!?   Look, if these fellas wanted to make Hannah Montana the movie, they should have just gotten the rights to Hannah Montana.

The claim in this video is that 1/4 of a million children are abducted by strangers each year.  US Dept crime stats say 115.  Not 115,000.  115.  Your number is so far off from reality, you may as well be claiming that trolls in the sewers are snatching children who don't make their beds or put away their toys.

Water is a chemical.
Carbon is a chemical.
And unless those conveyer belts and water nozzles are rooted to the ground beside the coffee plants, there is nothing natural about your process either.

Boo-urns to Tim Hortons for playing on people's fears of all-things man made and the ever increasing chemophobia of the populace.  Shame.

When it comes to marketing and communications, information has a value that is very straight forward to calculate. All too often the cost to retrieve and share that information exceed its value, leading to a general consensus that measurement is expensive; a luxury that may fit in someone else's budget but, with the limited resources in your hands, the money is better spent doing something rather than observing something.Measurement shouldn't be ...

caught this video as a pre-roll ad.  Listen, I don't car what the puppet says, having a down payment is NOT a matter of luck.  It is a matter of financial planning, saving and discipline.  It was this sort of zero down payment nonsense that led to the problems that hit the US housing market and a damn good sign that our own real estate bubble is primed to pop.   If you don't have a down payment you should not be buying a house.  If the mortgage is more than 4-6 times your annual salary you shouldn't be buying that house.  Simple as that.

I guess I'm part of that 8% because I earn wayyyy under $200k a year but have always maxed my TFSA.  I would argue that the number maxing is less a function of earning capacity and more the public's broad lack of understanding of what a TFSA is and how it can be part of your financial planning.  Hence the need for 1/3 of this segment being a primer on what TFSAs are.

What people are failing to remember is that your contribution room carries along with you.  Just because you couldn't maximize this year does not mean you will never have funds to sock away.  Almost everyone at some point ends up with a lump sum land in their hands - be it a settlement, a successful sale of non-liquid assets or an inheritance.

Putting things into context and perspective so that you don't freak at every bump in the night...
One of the keys to understanding social media is context. Although social media has been with us for more than a decade, in a business setting it is still quite new, and as such there is a tendency to inflate the importance of messages on these digital platforms because of that very novelty.Anyone who has been in digital communications has, at one point or another, had to talk an executive off the ledge because they were out of their minds with w...

When I went to present this at PodCamp Toronto, my laptop decided then and there was the right time to update Windows.  As a result the deck never loaded and the audience was spared my attempt at Seussian rhyming.  But gluttons for punishment can now find it online...
(with apologies to Dr. Seuss) If you can pardon the rather poor rhymes, some of the basic principles around measuring social media are addressed in this deck.

While I'll agree that the taps haven't been completely turned off, you have to agree that brand content entering the river of news is down to mere drips and drops and is nowhere near the flow that it once was.  Remember the days when you could organically hit a quarter or more of the audience you built?

You 'Like' over 500 pages, but out of some 50 posts you passed by, only two or three of those pages had content show up in your stream.  SI showed up because it mentioned a page you liked, and Upworthy showed up as a feature of Facebook's trending topics.  The odds are not favouring the pages.

I have to say that I truly enjoyed this movie.  It was quirky and honest and made me laugh and cry in equal helpings.  It releases wide in July - if it's playing in your town I highly highly recommend it.

Introduction
I am a storyteller. Time was, I used pen and ink on paper to tell stories through words and pictures, but that was a long while ago.

Currently my medium is in facts, data and information.  I weave together tales that help brands understand the impact of their public relations efforts.  I measure the intangible and give it form through charts and graphs and tables so that corporations can better use their PR and marketing dollars.
