I've decided to take some time shooting a few of Cincinnati's well known icons for my collection. My plan is to pick one and go back there periodically at different times and in different weather conditions. Ultimately, I hope to have a nice collection of angles, processing styles and looks for each one.
This is just a quick Lightroom edit of one of yesterday's shots, though not the one I will be choosing from that session (I'm still working on that one.) This is more of a documentary record that I was there.
To get this shot, I pulled into one of the turn lanes in the entry drive of the Terminal, and placed my tripod on top of our van. I actually used Olympus's 15mm body cap lens--mostly because it's the widest angle lens I have for my Lumix G5 at the moment--never let the lack of proper gear keep you from taking a shot you want to take.
If you want a shot like this, be set up by sunrise at this location with at least a 30mm full frame equivalent lens/sensor combination. If you want a hint of sunlight combined with the Terminal's lights, make sure you're set up well before 7:30, when they turn the lights on the building out (at least at this time of year.)
- Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton CountyReference Librarian, present
I am a full time reference librarian. My focus is teaching people how to automate the research process and become more efficient in their digital pursuits. Information is a raw material, and I want people to have access to as much of it as possible.
My favorite way to unwind is photography. My main focus is architectural photography, because I spend my days in a city, and I have historic neighborhoods and a college campus nearby with an eclectic architectural history. I love the way light and line interact, and I love the fact that buildings don't move (much.)
