Are You A Link Removal Ninja? State  of Search, Dallas 2014
If you're still on the "necessary evil" thought path when dealing with penalty cleanup, you might be doing it wrong.
If, on the other hand, you've been rocking some Ninja moves to turn every negative into a positive, you might just be featured in this presentation from +Sha Menz at the recent State of Search conference in Dallas.

Sha is always on the lookout for #linkremoval specialists whose creative approach to the problem pays off in ways others may not expect. These are the people we like to refer to as link removal Ninjas. The people who achieve link cleanup way above the industry average while building the brand and earning new links and new business with smart approaches and techniques.

Here is the slide deck for those of you who were not able to make it to State of Search:

Publisher Beware - Pay Attention to those Link Removal Requests

This #Youmoz   post by +Alexander Kesler at +Moz  really sounds as much of a warning for unwary Publishers as it does for those whose competitors might be tempted to find unethical ways to bring them down.

Of course all of these issues were high on our radar when we developed +rmoov and are the reason we built in several security features to put a stop to those with malicious intent.

Publishers receiving #linkremoval requests from #rmoov customers can be confident that any campaign using a return address not originating from the target domain has had to fulfill a due diligence process which includes phone checks with the domain owner before being approved to send requests using an external mailbox for returns. (This is sometimes necessary because mail systems and procedures do not allow for site owners to provide a mailbox for use by those outside their organization. Tyler Krout covered this really well in his comment on the post. Good explanation pointing out that things aren't always as clear cut as they look. +10 Tyler :-) )

Thankfully, the majority of Publishers do pay attention to these things and also follow their own due diligence procedures to prevent those with malicious intent from being successful.

Remember Publishers, when you see the rmoov convenience link on an emailed request, you can be assured that the requester has fulfilled our security requirements and proven that they have the permission of the domain owner to act on their behalf.

Just in case you missed it, +Matt Cutts had some tips to share for those who just can't stop manipulating....disavow files!
While chatting with our concept person +Sha Menz at #SMX West in San Jose, Matt was good enough to drop a good natured hint for those who still haven't figured out that the Web Spam Team doesn't just forget about you once a manual action is revoked.
Thanks for the chat Matt, we loved it! :)

It was so great to be at #SMX Sydney and see Cyrus deliver this presentation in person. We know that so many people who are dealing with unnatural links penalties are also faced with the problem of needing to bring their long-established sites forward to meet the challenges of the new Search landscape.
So many people talk about #Hummingbird and #Entity #Search , but few have actually managed to explain what it actually means with clarity and simplicity.
In this presentation +Cyrus Shepard nailed it. More than that, he lifted the veil of mystery surrounding these latest changes in a way that even the least experienced can understand.
If you are a marketer struggling to bring your clients to a real understanding of why things aren't as they used to be, this deck will help you put things in perspective for them.
If you get the chance to read or hear more from +Cyrus Shepard on this, grab it with both hands!
