My wife and I eat at the River Room every year when we meet family in Myrtle Beach. We meet them in Georgetown since we live in Charleston and they come down from DC area. Everytime we've had great service and excellent food. My wife and I order the ribeye oscar everytime and it's never failed us. My uncles side of the family always gets the filet medallions and it's also extremely good. We look forward to this meet every year and our dinner together at the River Room. Thanks to the staff for great service and food.

My family and I were there about a month ago on a Thursday night. It wasn't overly crowded. While the server was nice enough when we saw her, we didn't see her often. The food certainly did not live up to the 4 and 5 star reviews on this site. The seafood platter was blah and pasty. The fries and hushpuppies were hard. The crab cakes were mainly filler, very little crab to be found and the other fish dish that was not fried was bland and mushy. Some other friends that were eating there that night as well asked me what I thought and both of us agreed that the food was workmanlike at best. I don't mind paying good money for good food, but this food was not worth the price. I will say the view is great.

Terrible. I'm not kidding, over an hour to get our food. Food quality was sad, this place makes Long John Silvers look like five star dinning. Our server was unattentive and unconcerned; as well as the host / general manager. Don't eat here.

I responded to Mr. Franklin privately.

It is on the riverfront; offers a great view and the food is tasty. Owners live above the restaurant and are active in the community.
Response from the owner - a month ago
Thank you, Mr. Ciminel!

The herb encrusted grouper was excellent. No heavy sauce. So good. Seared lightly seasoned. Our waitress was knowledgable and friendly. The only downside was that the restaurant decor needs serious updating. Best grouper in myrtle.

Thank you, Barb!

They state when you sit down that their specialty is FRESH seafood. What a joke, all of the proteins were obviously frozen. Worst seafood we have had at a seafood restaurant ever. Their shrimp and grits was like canned gravy that had sausage simmered it in and frozen shrimp thrown in the pan to warm. The only things we had that we considered "good" were the grits and bread.

Wow! This is painful to read. I apologize for your experience. We try very hard to maintain consistency and we missed the mark with your table, apparently by a wide margin. I have some questions but I don't see a way to contact you privately through Google My Business. I hope you will contact me at river.room@gmail.com. Kindest regards, Sally Swineford Owner/manager

I lived in Georgetown for five years and this was the best restaurant in the area hands down. I was never disappointed and look forward to going back again. Most patrons never even see the bar but it's worth a look. Beautiful full timber floors and walls that serves as an impressive wine cellar above ground.

Thank you for your great review, Chuck! We look forward to serving you for many years to come.
