We had a very nice stay in Bayfield at the Old Rittenhouse Inn. Located in the downtown area, we were able to walk to shops and restaurants from the Inn. The room was large and comfortable and the breakfast was filling and delicious. So if you’re wondering why I only gave 3 stars it is because this Bed & Breakfast felt more like a restaurant that has an inn attached to it. The only way to meet the owners/hosts is to have dinner - they recite the menu to each table. Usually when you stay at a B&B the host serves you breakfast and talks about the house, the area, their story, etc. The breakfast is continental, although you can purchase hot entrees on the menu – served by a wait staff. Here it felt like we were going to a local restaurant for breakfast - and had the awkward feeling of needing to leave a tip – but our wallets were still up in our room. They give you a bill – even if you don’t order anything so you can leave a tip on your room tab – so really the option to leave a tip for an included meal is really expected. This might have been okay had we known what to expect. Finally - it would have been nice to have a separate dining space for guests of the inn and a separate entrance to the rooms – it was often quite tight coming and going. In closing I had a nice stay but I don’t think I would stay again as there was nothing that wowed us about the stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Rittenhouse Inn for our 15 year anniversary this past Thursday - Saturday. The staff was very kind, going out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. For breakfast the menu was recited by memory, and when we asked questions they had all of the answers. We tried different breakfast entrees (quiche, ham and egg scramble), with the blueberry cobbler one day and fruit, granola and yogurt another, definitely leaving full and with a small bag of breads/muffin left over! We stayed in room XI, very plush, super clean, loving that the housekeeper came in daily to freshen up our rooms! The rooms were wonderful with many options for comfort - whirlpool, steam shower ******, bench window seat, outdoor balcony, comfortable sofa, romantic lighting, plush towels, complimentary robes for our use, and much more. The Inn was close to everything - we walked all over town, loving the small town atmosphere. We definitely plan to be back and stay again at the Rittenhouse!!

My wife and I stayed the the Rittenhouse (Chateau) this past week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We have stayed at both locations and have always had an amazing experience. The grandness of the venue and the top notch service are hard to beat. The food is the best in town and the service is the same. We have been going to Bayfield for the past five years and stay at the Rittenhouse each year. We couldn't be more enthusiastic about our recommend for the Rittenhouse or Chateau.

I must say I was truly impressed with my stay at Rittenhouse. It has a victorian flair to it, but the room I stayed in had a modern feel and was not frilly, as is the problem with some places. First off, Bayfield was great. It was off season in the Spring but it was still a great place to just be by the water. Top things at Rittenhouse: Fantastic views out over the Lake, amazing breakfast special (if they have biscuits make sure you get them), friendly staff, and just an all around serene and comfy atmosphere to relax for a few days. Can't imagine staying anywhere else if I come back to town.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Rittenhouse Inn for the first time. It was a wonderful experience! As others have commented, the food is superb, the service is outstanding, the place is impeccable, and the people there are so warm and friendly. They "bend over backwards" to accomodate you and make you feel at home. The rooms are all different, and they are beautiful! We will definitely return to the Rittenhouse when we visit Bayfield again. This time we went dog sledding, which was amazing!!
