Thank you for your review. We're glad you found the room to be large and comfortable and the breakfast filling and delicious. We regret that you were not "wowed" by your stay and wish we had done more to earn a 5 star review. We do feel the need to respond to the comment that "the only way to meet the owners is to have dinner." This is simply not true, as one of our family members is onsite nearly all the time, whether it's Jerry, Wendy, Julie, or Mark. Unlike many smaller B&Bs, we have a total of 20 guest rooms and suites in three historic Bayfileld, WI properties. We also have an onsite gourmet restaurant that is open to the public for breakfast and dinner. This is a lot to manage, and we rely on our staff of about 25 year-round employees to accomplish everything. We have learned over 40 years of innkeeping that some guests prefer more contact with innkeepers, while some definitely prefer less! We try to use cues from our guests to determine how much interaction they prefer and provide the right amount. We don't always get it right, and we're sorry if we failed in this case. One other thing to note: as of January 1, 2014 we include a 2-course hot breakfast with every overnight stay. The reason we give a bill to our houseguests is so they might add an evening meal or a server gratuity to their lodging folio if they so choose. As the review noted, we have waiters who serve our guests (we are a full service restaurant after all) and we do hope our guests will show some appreciation for the efforts of our staff, though it is left to the individual's discretion. As to the last comment in the review regarding separate entrance to the rooms, we are blessed with an old victorian house and we make the best use of the space we can. Guests looking for more space and less hustle and bustle associated with a busy restaurant may find our Le Chateau property to be more ideally suited to their needs.
