With a stretch of dry weather, I headed out over the weekend to run the 2016 course. It was a beautiful day on the trails (see the photos posted yesterday), and I was able to ford the (very cold) creek to go start to finish. The GPS track and elevation profile is available on the website, so head on over for the details. http://goo.gl/cZQJ7O

This shows the marathon course; 50k runners will add in another five miles via a second running of the North Rim Loop (that's the big climb/descent between miles 5 and 10), while 50 mile runners will cut off the final one mile, then run two 25 mile laps.

Take a look to see what's in store, then, if you haven't already, pick your distance and register today!

For those looking for more information about the Rim To Rim Trail Run course, we've updated the website with a map showing the different segments of the course for each race distance (half, marathon, 50k, and 50 mile). There is also a detailed written course description on the website to go along with the map. http://goo.gl/EemdKP

With the wet winter we're having, we can't currently cross the creek and run the full course for the longer distances. As soon as we do, we'll have GPS tracks and elevation profiles up for the marathon, 50k, and 50 mile. In the meantime, here are the elevation gains for each distance to give you an idea what you're in for:

50 mile: 8500 feet
50k: 5200 feet
Marathon: 4200 feet
Half Marathon: 2000 feet

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions on the course. We look forward to seeing you on the trails!

Another local sponsor (and member of our running community), Dr. Weber at Whispering Pines Pet Clinic is back on board for 2016. He has owned the local clinic and provided top notch veterinary care for the last 10 years, and we're glad to have his continued support. http://goo.gl/EM7uXt

Calling all volunteers: the Rim To Rim Trail Run needs you! A race like this is a huge undertaking, and it wouldn't be possible without the support of a strong volunteer community. Aid station personnel, course monitors, sweeps... however you'd like to help, we can use you. Get in touch with us via Google+, Facebook, or volunteer@rimtorimtrailrun.com to find out more. http://goo.gl/wiicbK

Once again for 2016, the Rim To Rim Trail Run will be part of the Trail Runner magazine Trophy Series! This event has great prizes and includes races from all across the nation. The best part? You don't have to do anything special to sign up. Just run in any Trophy Series events and you start earning points. See http://goo.gl/WNxXUo for details.

It's not just running companies that make races like ours possible. Other local businesses play an important role. We would like to thank Waller Financial Coaching for returning as a sponsor for 2016. If the new year has you thinking about taxes, finances, and your future, this is a great resource. We've had a few questions about the elevation gain for 2016, so here's the (approximate) measurements:

50 mile: 8500 feet
50k: 5200 feet
Marathon: 4200 feet
Half Marathon: 2000 feet

No matter which distance you choose, you'll face solid climbs and fun downhills. There's something for everyone!

Had a rough day on the trail with strong winds, rain, and slippery, treacherous footing. I was hoping to run the full Rim To Rim marathon course, but the creek crossing that is nice and tame in June was a bit much in December with the extra water flowing. For now you can still read the course description at http://rimtorimtrailrun.com/course/ and take a look at 19 of the 26 miles at https://www.strava.com/activities/454514427.
