Addicts of all types have ongoing issues with healthy emotional and sexual intimacy. This is not surprising when one understands that addicts abuse to self-soothe and avoid the pain of life.

PTSD can occur in any situation in which a person experiences or witnesses a tragic event. So are there children more at risk for PTSD? And what kind of preventive treatment is possible?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a diagnosis that is understood by the general public to be associated with exposure to large-scale situations, such as soldiers returning from deployment in combat zones.

Because postpartum depression is a serious issue, it is imperative to identify early the signs and symptoms.
When mothers suffer from postpartum depression, childbirth can mean mental health issues that overshadow child rearing, and share similarities to post-traumatic stress disorder.

You’ve given up one addiction and you’re feeling good, but as you work to eliminate the grip of one compulsion in your life, perhaps you find yourself gravitating toward something else. What’s going on here?

Because of the delicate nature of fetal development, this prenatal cocaine exposure can have results that range in impact from relatively mild to extremely severe...
Young teenagers prenatally exposed to cocaine have increased chances of using any one of a number of substances by the time they reach age 15.

Some parents mistakenly believe that teaching a child the responsible approach to drinking will help them develop more cognitive abilities to manage their alcohol use. Unfortunately, that’s not how the brain works.

I am in recovery, I give all the credit to my hard work that I did and my counselor Shonda for seeing my soul and what cob webs needed to swept out. So that I remember that spiritual, mental, and physical health need to be worked on for my life span here on earth. By keeping MY SOBRIETY FIRST, I know that I can do this one moment, one day and one step at time. I have a support system here in Texas and I have a whole lot of folks and meetings to get me through the challenges that will arise. Just because I got healthy don't mean that my life is all sunshine and rainbows. Life will continue to be life and because of The Right Step i can do this with the tools that I recovered after throwing them all out the window. I am grateful to all my sisters that I met and continue to reach out to today.

Do not go to this place! They have lack of professionalism and compassion. The only one that showed compassion was a nurse names Gail. She would get reprimanded b/c she was so nice. This place overdosed me on on clonadine which caused me to have to go the the hospital. I got sent to Ben Taub. NEVER GO TO BEN TAUB!!! Right Step claimed that I took something when I didnt b/c they went by what the hospital said. My whole goal was to be sober not get messed up. The hospital said my urine tested as having benzos in it. This is what Dr. Drew calls a false positive. If you watch Rehab on VH1 watch episode 4 youll know what I mean. Hell I dont even know what benzos are. Once I got out of the hospital I tried to return and they wouldnt let me b/c they said "I overdosed on something". I told them I only too what the nurses gave me. Im a transplant patient why would I take something that may cause rejection. I tried to explain by what i learned from dr. drew and they said you cant overdose on clonadine. GOOGLE IT! It is possibe. They then said sorry you cant come back b/c "I overdosed on something" and also they already filled my bed with someone else. They didnt believe anything I said. I did meet nice addicts there. Most likely I might have to take legal action.

Right Step Montrose showed an appalling lack of professionalism, sensitivity and concern when my son was at their facility. I am praying their mistakes don't cause irreparable harm.

They initially offered a bed but then did a high pressure sell on the $$$ ranch. When we said we did not want the ranch, they then said there were no beds available in the city.

Absolutely horrible experience!! Horrible food....what little they give you. Bored counselors just there for a paycheck. Inaccessible physician. Please look for a better facility...any facility is better than this place. Your life depends on it! Went to another facility in the Hill Country and have been sober for 2 years. Right Step should not have a license.

Great way to kick start your recovery. But recovery doesn't end the minute you leave. It's a good way to get a good dose of the change that is needed for full recovery. Staff is knowledgeable and experienced. Had Sophie as councillor. She is great.

I spent many years wallowing in my addiction to alcohol. Burried in self-pity, defeated, and attempting to avoid reality at all costs. This separated me from friends, family, and God. I did not get SOBER my first try. I had the destinct privilege to attend one of the best rehab facilities in the country; however, I did not stay sober after the "best treatment" in the country. It was not until 2 years later that I attended The Right Step. I entered on April 24, 2010 broken and terrified - but I knew that I needed help to recapture my life. The staff was immediately helpful and compassionate. They understood my pain and could relate to my fears and struggles. While at The Right Step, I had the privilege to meet with Dr. Powers on several occassions, and he helped educate me on my disease; as well as, support me through withdrawals and cravings. His understanding of alcoholism opened my eyes to my disease and the struggles within my body and mind. The compassion and care flowed throughout The Right Step from Dr. Powers to the counselors, the techs, the nurses, and the food staff. It was an amazing experience that literally saved my life and allowed me to discover myself and reconnect with my family. I am almost two years sober now, and have had the opportunity to be present with my mother as she battles cancer. Believe me my mom is forever greatful to The Right Step and the staff - they returned her son. It is through my education and experience at The Right Step that enabled me to reconnect with God and myself in order to follow the program and stay sober.
