LGBT-specific treatment for substance abuse may be the most effective treatment option for members of this community, but the availability of such services continues to lag behind demand. At the same time, research suggests that LGBT people who access general services for substance abuse or mental health issues often face some sort of mistreatment during the process. With increasing data about the high risk of substance abuse and mental health issues faced by this community, improving treatment availability and quality is crucial. http://vrl.ht/31809
Specific addiction treatment for LBGT community members struggling with addiction may be the most effective treatment option, but it's not available to all.

Teens love summer. School is out. They have more time to hang out with friends. And, if both parents work, they get to enjoy the freedom of unsupervised time. For many teens, this is a chance to demonstrate maturity and responsibility, but there are also risks. Unsupervised teens are more likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol. Don’t make the mistake of assuming your teen would never do this. Instead, if you have to leave your teen alone this summer, take steps to reduce the risk that he’ll get into trouble. http://vrl.ht/2C910
Teens love summer and having more free time, but there's a risk that unsupervised teens will experiment with drugs. Tips for a teen-proof summer vacation.

Many teenagers still don’t appreciate the potential risks of prescription drugs, according to a recent study. However, the deadly epidemic of prescription drug abuse now results in more annual deaths than any illegal drug. http://vrl.ht/28D84
Research finds peak anxiety levels or an intense desire to be popular among their peers correlated with the highest rates of teen prescription drug abuse.

Young people who experience or have experienced trauma may be unable to focus, may behave impulsively, and may display “acting out” behaviors that allow them to express difficult emotions they cannot address internally. They need the understanding of families and teachers, as well as therapeutic practitioners, in order to heal. http://vrl.ht/26B66

n my journey toward recovery from sex and love addictions, I’ve come across many points of view about both the recovery process and the existence of the addictions themselves. Many friends of mine think that there’s no such thing as sex addiction or love addiction—I don’t come right out and tell them I’m in recovery from both, but as most people in recovery know, there are ways to talk to friends about these things without revealing your relationship to them. http://vrl.ht/2361E

While there are many benefits for teens participating in school sports, there is also a major risk: substance abuse. Research has shown that students on sports teams, especially certain types of sports teams, are at a greater risk for abusing substances than teens who do not participate in athletics. There are some obvious benefits to school sports: physical activity, socializing with peers, healthy competition. As a parent, you shouldn’t necessarily let the risk of substance abuse overshadow these healthful benefits, but you should be aware of it.http://vrl.ht/2F993

When advanced ALS confined him to a bed and round-the-clock care, John Arthur and his partner of 20 years, Jim Obergefell, chartered a private plane with the help of generous donations from family and friends and headed off to get married. But after traveling from their home state of Ohio to Washington, D.C., to tie the knot officially, they soon discovered that their marriage would not be recognized on Arthur’s death certificate in Ohio. That is when the pair filed a civil lawsuit (knowing that Arthur would not live to see its resolution), asking that Ohio recognize their marriage. http://vrl.ht/2B06D

Science tells us that French authorities will be beating their heads against the wall if they really think they can coax aloof Parisians to put on a happy face. http://vrl.ht/2A7FC
Here in the free world, I highly recommend smiling. And go all the way. You can fake it 'til you make it, but the Duchenne smile is a  more powerful mood changer  than the perfunctory one flashed at the Pan Am jet-setters.

Legalized discrimination has real, tangible effects on the life prospects of those who are subject to its restrictions. The media’s coverage of and interest in issues important to the gay, lesbian and bisexual communities has increased in recent years. But the transgender population has, for the most part, been left on the outside looking in. Transgender men and women face enormous challenges in our society, but recognition and acknowledgement of that fact has been slow to come. http://vrl.ht/24A8E

I am in recovery, I give all the credit to my hard work that I did and my counselor Shonda for seeing my soul and what cob webs needed to swept out. So that I remember that spiritual, mental, and physical health need to be worked on for my life span here on earth. By keeping MY SOBRIETY FIRST, I know that I can do this one moment, one day and one step at time. I have a support system here in Texas and I have a whole lot of folks and meetings to get me through the challenges that will arise. Just because I got healthy don't mean that my life is all sunshine and rainbows. Life will continue to be life and because of The Right Step i can do this with the tools that I recovered after throwing them all out the window. I am grateful to all my sisters that I met and continue to reach out to today.

Do not go to this place! They have lack of professionalism and compassion. The only one that showed compassion was a nurse names Gail. She would get reprimanded b/c she was so nice. This place overdosed me on on clonadine which caused me to have to go the the hospital. I got sent to Ben Taub. NEVER GO TO BEN TAUB!!! Right Step claimed that I took something when I didnt b/c they went by what the hospital said. My whole goal was to be sober not get messed up. The hospital said my urine tested as having benzos in it. This is what Dr. Drew calls a false positive. If you watch Rehab on VH1 watch episode 4 youll know what I mean. Hell I dont even know what benzos are. Once I got out of the hospital I tried to return and they wouldnt let me b/c they said "I overdosed on something". I told them I only too what the nurses gave me. Im a transplant patient why would I take something that may cause rejection. I tried to explain by what i learned from dr. drew and they said you cant overdose on clonadine. GOOGLE IT! It is possibe. They then said sorry you cant come back b/c "I overdosed on something" and also they already filled my bed with someone else. They didnt believe anything I said. I did meet nice addicts there. Most likely I might have to take legal action.

Right Step Montrose showed an appalling lack of professionalism, sensitivity and concern when my son was at their facility. I am praying their mistakes don't cause irreparable harm.

They initially offered a bed but then did a high pressure sell on the $$$ ranch. When we said we did not want the ranch, they then said there were no beds available in the city.

Absolutely horrible experience!! Horrible food....what little they give you. Bored counselors just there for a paycheck. Inaccessible physician. Please look for a better facility...any facility is better than this place. Your life depends on it! Went to another facility in the Hill Country and have been sober for 2 years. Right Step should not have a license.

Great way to kick start your recovery. But recovery doesn't end the minute you leave. It's a good way to get a good dose of the change that is needed for full recovery. Staff is knowledgeable and experienced. Had Sophie as councillor. She is great.

This place is filthy and in an older building that is in need of many repairs. There are fire hazards throughout, faulty heating, and the food is less than adequate for the prices they charge. Their tolerance level for confrontation is below standard and the simple solution is to discharge you and take your money.......I would not recommend this facility nor their faculty. They are a very unprofessional organization and should look within.
