Interesting.
Engage and inspire, or rely on testing and big data
By studying one school, High Tech High, documentary Most Likely To Succeed offers a compelling look at the future of education.

It's nice when cool things come together....
Here is a trifecta,
fractals, self assembly, and molecular structures

Fractal first as molecules form Sierpinski triangles. Scientists have produced a repeating triangular pattern through molecular self-assembly: http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/2015/03/fractal-first-molecules-form-sierpinski-triangle

First shot at a 3D printed fractal:
Found a likable image in Mandlebuld3D
Used the Voxel stack export to make multiple images
Combined the images using ImageJ to create on OBJ file
Cleaned, decimated and converted to STL in Meshlab

overall printing time less than a minute, amazing!

Microscale 3D printing of a spaceship

This video shows a realtime recording of the 3D micro printing process by two-photon polymerization. Overall printing time was less than 50 seconds for the ship with dimensions 125µm x 81µm x 26.8µm (l x w x h). The length of the spaceship is approximately equal to the diameter of a human hair.

yeah,
not sure if this is disrespectful,
but it forced a grin..
At some point someone got the idea to put a taxidermied animal on a remote control (RC) body. Here’s a few examples of this type of animal-machine hybrid. I’m not sure I would want my pet immortalized like this, but to each his own I suppose… Beloved Cat Turned into a …

This weekend at TED, Carbon3D presented their new resin-based technology that will greatly speed up 3D printing times, by as much as 25x faster than currently seen.
The technologies that we often talk about for 3D printing (FDM, SLA, SLS), have been around for a while and it’s rare that we see ground breaking processes that really shake things up. This week, a new company in the market Carbon 3D, has released a new process they refer …

breaking the law

It’s taken decades to nail down, but researchers in Canada have finally identified a new chemical bond, which they’re calling a ‘vibrational bond’. This vibrational bond seems to break the law of chemistry that states if you increase the...

Here is an image of an STL file produced for Diego Garcia.

It appears that a 3D print could be done of this but it lacks definition in the "Z" when printed to scale.

I am relying on the elevation data produced by the terrain mapper. The mapper lacks both historical and undersea data.

It would be easy to raise the waterline, and systematically 3D print the progression to show how portions of the island would submerge as sea level rises.

So forward in time, but not back.....

Gotcha.  Perhaps a non-linear exaggeration such as (z^2)/4?
