Raccoon Hole in the Soffit of a House in Alpharetta, Georgia

This is the hole that the raccoon referenced in the previous scat post made to get into the house. It's a small hole, but it was a small raccoon. It was a "bachelor" male, which is a young raccoon who mama booted out of the nest and is spending its first winter on its own.

It's not unusual for young male raccoons to spend their first winters either living alone or with other young males who may or may not be related to them. In this case, it was only the one raccoon (which also explains the relatively small amount of scat in the attic). The females usually spend their first winters with their mothers.
