Norway rats are burrowing rodents by nature, and sometimes they go old-school and burrow and gnaw their way into a house, as they did at this home in Dunwoody.

Mice Were Getting In From Under the Bay Window

This one took a bit of detective work. There was a construction gap in the wood under the bay window, and the mice used it to get into the house.

Flying Squirrel Hole in a House in Johns Creek, Georgia

The flying squirrel started with the gap under the fascia, and enlarged it into the doorway into its new hangar.

How Squirrels Got Into a House in College Park, Georgia

The end is missing from the soffit. Judging by the nail holes and the age of the wood, my guess is that it just fell off, and the squirrels got in before the homeowner noticed.

It looks like the installer may have tried to seal that opening with mortar. Unfortunately, mortar isn't made to fill holes that big.

It looks like there was already enough of a gap for the mice to get through, but they did a bit of gnawing on the top of the vent cover just for good measure.

Squirrel Hole in the Soffit of a House in Atlanta

If I had to guess, I'd guess that the squirrel started with a knot hole in the soffit panel and enlarged it to a comfortable size to get through.

The flashing was poorly installed and left a gap that roof rats used to get into the attic.
