What a gorgeous picture of the Ruby River at Upper Canyon Outfitters. I do believe that I will wait for warmer days to see the river in person again. Thanks for sharing +Donna McDonald.

BURRRR cold here this morning with the wind it was -61.  I knew it would be beautiful by the river so withstood the brutal conditions and got a few photos.  Hope you enjoy.

A very good post by +Maja Stevanovich about who should be doing an organizations social media. Bottom line, the person with the right experience regardless of age.

In fact, for some reason when it comes to law, it seems to be the older lawyers that are embracing work based social more than the tech generation - odd !

I concur with the organizational arrogance. Every company that earns it eventually loses to it.

Check out this post by my friend and neighbor +Brenda Chapman. Excellent points.
A look into the work of artist David Trumble's recently-viral “Disney Princessifying” satirical makeover given to modern female role models.

Excellent post by +Richard Becker. I am always better with an excellent editor and second set of eyes proof reading my writing.

Your writing is almost never as good as you think. But there are 10 questions to assess where you could use some room for improvement.

These are excellent points by +Steve Radick. I would agree that becoming slaves to the numbers will make PR people less effective.

My latest blog post -- "In 2014, let’s make a concerted effort to not be a slave to data. To not let machines and spreadsheets dictate our conversations and relationships. To remember that public relations is still more art than science. To use data to enhance our decision-making, not make decisions for us. Let’s recognize that no matter how advanced the data gets, computers and algorithms will never be able to replace actual human interaction" http://steveradick.com/2014/01/06/you-become-what-you-measure/

That's is a great post and very true.  Metrics are incredibly important, so do is the data we collect to measure, it's the gaming that ensues that's such a problem.

This issue continues to grow and, frankly, fester in the Bay Area - not just San Francisco. Many of the technology executives I speak with either don't recognize the image problem or don't understand the implications. There needs to be some work toward mutual understanding here.

Hat tip to +Sam Singer.

Thank YOU +Rick Rice  - I was thinking about you last week because we hadn't interacted in so long.  I LOVE This company - I found it through my other posts.  Not only is it recycling materials, it is providing GOOD jobs.  Emily & Betsy Nunez are two new heroes for me.  And Emily, the CEO, is stationed in Afghanistan right now!!!

Story
Introduction
After 30 years in corporate communications and crisis management I’m a mostly retired part-time consultant. As a certified and experienced curmudgeon I now get to work only with people I like and who have learned that communicating includes listening. In semi-retirement it has been interesting to become more of a media consumer instead of a producer.

I enjoy reading, mostly ‘news’ and fiction, golf and fly-fishing. I'm a dog lover with two great ones who are rarely far from my desk.

My other passion is supporting those who serve our country in the military, their family and friends. I do provide pro bono communications consulting and speaking to Air Force Public Affairs whenever and wherever asked and find it very rewarding.

I'm also interested in giving back and have been a supporter of the my local Make-A-Wish foundation including four years on the Board of Directors.

If you’re interested you can find out more about me at RTRViews.com.
