One of the challenges with fixing or extending someone else's #Drupal site is not knowing what's going on under the hood. However, there are modules out there that can do quite a bit of heavy lifting and give you a quick assessment. Here's an article I wrote to help get people started.
Your web presence is a critical component of your organization's overall ability to achieve its goals in today's increasingly competitive landscape. Furthermore, a single under-performing aspect could mean the difference between success and failure. Regular audits can help maintain peak ...

Contributing to and interacting with the #Drupal community isn't as scary or as daunting as you might think. My advice—take the plunge by attending a local meetup or camp and be open to the many opportunities that will start presenting themselves. It worked for me! Here's my story...
Looking back at my Drupal career, I regret that it took me so long to transition from a bystander to an active participant. I had been building my first large Drupal site for approximately 6 months before I finally faced a bug that annoyed me enough to justify creating an account so I could file ...

When hardening computer systems, we have to remember that not all threats are external...

As I was reflecting on 2014 and preparing for my 2015 goals, I decided to write about a topic that has served me well over the past few years: the power of continuous and incremental improvements in achieving one's long term goals. Enjoy!
How Continuous Improvement Can Lead to Massive Long Term Results Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it... he who doesn't... pays it. ― Albert Einstein

If you're about to embark on creating a new integration with #Drupal, congrats! It will certainly be a fun and rewarding experience. However, it can also be a very challenging process if you do not do your due diligence. I wrote this article to share what I've learned over the years in the hopes that you avoid some of the common traps.
As Drupal continues to mature as a platform and gain adoption in the enterprise space, integration with one or more 3rd party systems is becoming common for medium to large scale projects. Unfortunately, it can be easy to underestimate the time and effort required to make these integrations work ...

The new PCI compliance standards become mandatory on January 1st, 2015. #Drupal eCommerce developers and merchants take notice—the number and security controls has increased dramatically.
For those wanting to dive right in, simply click this link to download the white paper. Matt Kleve was spot on in his DrupalCon Denver 2013 presentation title PCI: a Four-Letter Word of eCommerce. Whenever I present on or discuss the subject matter with other members of the community, ...

+Scott Sawyer you'll note in the white paper that the recommendation is that all shared management solutions adhere to SAQ A-EP despite ongoing debate regarding whether or not HPP and iframe solutions received an exemption (I argue that HPP did not, but there is some gray area on iframe). Regardless, even if they all fall within A-EP, HPP will make it easier to meet the controls than direct post because it is harder to attack.

And yes I do agree that this is a game changer for small merchants.

An in depth analysis of an important software engineering concept. I especially liked the care taken to distinguish technical debt with simply incorrect or "bad" code.
A primer about technical debt, legacy code, big rewrites and ancient wisdom for non technical managers

I've probably revisited this article 5-10 times since I stumbled upon it in college. I've always wondered why we as a society had difficulty adopting new truths/paradigms more rapidly, why good people could do terrible things, etc. I hope collection of psychological phenomenon will  give you a new perspective on the human experience... and why things are the way they are.
