This is a pretty good site to help figure out whether a movie is safe or not for my kids to watch. A Clockwork Orange apparently is not.

Richard is the President-Elect of a 750-member medical staff and is Chair/CEO of a forming Independent Practice Association. He is the Managing Partner of an ED physician group that cares for over 75,000 patients each year. His emergency department has been on the cutting edge of healthcare operations for the last decade. They are leaders in the use of physician scribes. Richard led the development and has consulted on a “pit crew” approach to seeing patients rapidly and compassionately. His department is uses a “teams and zones” model of care. They see an increasing number of patients while achieving high quality and satisfaction amidst decreasing community-wide resources.

In December of 2009, Richard was the inaugural winner of the Physician Champion in Care Award at Saint Agnes Medical Center. This award was created by the hospital nursing staff to honor the physician who:

  • demonstrates respect for all members of the clinical team, is open to different points of view, and communicates openly and effectively.
  • recognizes and values the individual and shared knowledge in nurse / physician interactions.
  • supports nursing in engaging patients as active participants in their care.
  • appreciates and values the integral role teamwork plays in the delivery of care and in improving patient outcomes.

Richard served on the task force that created a collaborative hospital leadership model, the Integrated Leadership Team. In this model, a select team of physicians and hospital senior administrators work collaboratively as the senior management team on decisions of strategy, capital budget and partnerships. He also worked to form a Hospital Multidisciplinary Peer Review Committee. He currently sits on the Integrated Leadership Team, the Medical Executive Committee, and the Bylaws Committee of the Medical Staff.

Richard is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCSF. He is board certified and performed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco at Fresno. While a resident he was Chief Resident and won the Intern of the Year award.

He attended the Honors College at the University of Illinois at Chicago and won several student research awards.
