Beyond Iconic Photos - Iconic Time Lapse
I recently read an online article in the Washington Post that proves my assertion that we all take iconic photos.  My definition of an iconic photo is one that is taken thousands of times by thousands of people.  These photos often look very similar, only v...

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
I should be out in the yard working today but instead I'm working through some photos I took over a month ago.  I'll get out soon, but I want to share these two photos. Both photos were taken at Anna Ruby Falls in North Georgia.  They were taken a few minut...

A great idea, with some problems
I use a polarizer filter most of the time when I'm shooting outdoors in the day time.   The good news is I have four lenses that all use the same size filter so I have only had to buy one.  The bad news is that means I am constantly taking the filter off on...

Waterfalls are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. Sometimes the details are more interesting than the falls.

This is a popular waterfall in Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina near the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can drive right up to it and walk down some stairs to the base of the falls. Of course, I tend to hop the wall to get a better angle. Any guesses which waterfall this is?

Table Rock, South Carolina
The moon was 3/4 full and behind me.  This gave enough light to illuminate Table Rock Mountain without washing out the stars too much.   I couldn't see the milky way because of light pollution and some pesky trees in my way.

Clematis
I decided to experiment with a flash and reflector to light the flower from the side.  I was just about to get it when the rains came.  I'll have to try this again sometime.

I don't usually do product reviews on my blog but this time I decided to share my experience with XUME filter adapters.

Our Virginia Bluebells are about to open.
A few years ago we started going to the Spring Festival at Exchange Place and  buying native wildflowers to create a wildflower garden.   These are some of the early bloomers in our garden.

This is a focus stack of 35 images (Helicon Focus).  I created the 35 images using a CamRanger wireless controller.   Both of these tools are new to me and I am still learning.

Helcion Focus is a great tool.  Easy to use and fast processing.   I've had a few issues with the CamRanger.   It seems to lose connection when I'm shooting a stack of raw photos.   It does better when I shoot JPEG.  Also have some issues with other wifi networks interfering.  It does better when I'm out in the field away from any other wifi networks.  I used it last week to shoot stars.  It's good for seeing your shots right after you take them and adjusting.

We stayed at the Glacier Guides Lodge September 1 & 2 and wish we had stayed longer. It's a great place to stay and base out of for the west side of Glacier. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms were excellent, and the breakfast was top notch. I highly recommend the lodge. Didn't take advantage of any of the other services but I'm sure they are excellent as well.
