Cities needn’t be wastelands of car-choked roads and pavement. Incorporating food production into ever-expanding urban areas makes cities more liveable and enhances the natural systems that keep us alive and healthy.
Humans are fast becoming city dwellers. According to the United Nations, “The urban population of the world has grown rapidly from 746 million in 1950...

Urban agriculture won't resolve all food production and distribution problems, but it could help take pressure off rural land while providing other advantages. From balcony, backyard, rooftop, indoor and community gardens to city beehives and chicken coops to larger urban farms and farmers markets, growing and distributing local food in or near cities is a healthy way to help the environment.

Let’s compare Las Vegas and Denver. In Denver, visitors can catch a train from the airport to downtown or other areas for $9 per ride. It’s a 30-minute trip to the central metro area from the airport, which was built so far east of Denver that people joke it’s in Kansas.

In Las Vegas, where we were wise enough not to build our airport in such a remote area, a rail ride would be quicker and perhaps cheaper, maybe even free depending on how the system would be funded.

That would be a much better way to welcome people to Las Vegas than the current setup: a long taxi line and congested roads
When a big event such as a marquee fight or a major concert happens on the Strip, Las Vegas Boulevard turns into a gridlocked disaster of honking horns, grumbling tourists and …

Since the founding of DC Central Kitchen in 1989, they've prepared 27 million meals for their low-income and at-risk neighbors. That’s a lot of meals, and the real deal, but they don't want you to mistake them for a soup kitchen.
It's important that we're giving back to communities in need. And my take is that it's most important for people to put food on the table, and then a roof over that table. To help facilitate this, I supported the DC Central Kitchen. One way I did that was to help 'em get some new ovens that we're just delivered. Since the founding of DC Central Kitchen in 1989, they've prepared 27 million meals for their low-income and at-risk neighbors. That’s a...

Here is a "Summary" in six words:

1 Simple

2 Scalable

3 Sustainable

4 Replicable

5 Renewable

6 Awesome!

While it can "evolve" into something much more involved and complicated ... and community wide, while it can be effectuated and facilitated by social enterprises, nonprofit, secular and faith based entities, the simple fact is that simple steps and understanding can lead to something much more significant.

I love this particular link from Miami because it is a foundational program that can easily "morph" and progress into something awesome. It requires no startup costs and only a few people to begin ... I find it very thought provoking and action generating:

Everything else is a variation of the same themes stated in six not so simple words listed above.

All the other links from my profile photo found athttps://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=307360919290607&set=a.156193431074024.36060.100000501040244&type=3&theater
are variations on a particular theme -- of bringing this type of Triple Bottom Line, entrepreneurial magic via the StartUp Weekend programs to remote places like Mindanao in the Southern Philippines -- the heart and location of my desired "base of operations."
