Happy birthday to Robert Ludlum, born on this day in 1927!

Fun fact: As the somewhat passive-aggressive exchange here suggests, Jimmy Olsen was glumly aware there were few opportunities for advancement at the Daily Planet. Even when Doomsday’s rampage and Clark Kent’s disappearance left a “star reporter” position open, Perry White hired from outside.

In fairness to Mr. White, he hoped to obtain a journalist whose stories weren’t mostly a record of his own time-traveling misadventures and bizarre transformations. Great Caesar’s Ghost, somebody had to hold down the National Affairs desk!

Fun fact: Early on, Grodd resolved that while the road to world conquest might be long and frustrating, he would never endure the frustration of an itchy back.
