So it's a site for registered history. What about UNregistered history?

I like it. Reminds me of some of the Red Stags dances. Decidedly not in the traditional border morris style, but still retains the traditional primal quality. Fun stuff.

All these worlds are yours. I'll even throw in Europa.
Now that I have a reasonable-resolution global color view of Pluto, I can drop it into one of my trademark scale image montages, to show you how it fits in with the rest of the similar-sized worlds in the solar system: the major moons and the biggest asteroids.

...The color of Pluto is superficially reminiscent of Mars, but I suspect the more relevant comparison is the surface of Titan, under the clouds.

Syracuse University physicists (though not me) were involved. Actually about 700 physicists were involved but one of ours was quoted here.

States' rights? The Confederacy was against states' rights.

"With regard to secession, they typically do not quote the central documents, such as South Carolina’s famous “Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession from the Federal Union.” That document makes absolutely clear that it’s all about slavery, and that South Carolina is against states’ rights.... They list the states, and the rights, that outrage them. For instance, they are outraged that New York no longer allows temporary slavery, or slavery transit....South Carolina is outraged at New England states, because they let black folks vote.... And, of course, they are outraged by little ways in which Pennsylvania, Illinois and other border-line state are interfering with the operation of the Federal Fugitive Slave Act."
The states' rights explanation of the Civil War was always doomed, celebrated historian James Loewen tells Salon

All history is fabrication, in the literal sense: Built by people. As such it is always only an approximation to truth: sometimes better, sometimes worse, and worse for good reasons or bad ones. As our knowledge, understanding, and consensus evaluation of history changes, so should our iconography.

Not that it was any big deal by hard core riders' standards, but I guess this was the most challenging ride I've done in 20, possibly 30 years. Name of the route was "Why They're Called Institutions of Higher Learning": Armory Square to LeMoyne College to Syracuse University to Onondaga Community College to Armory Square. Yes, Syracusans, that meant going from Glenwood Ave. to OCC via South Ave and Seneca Turnpike. There was an officially sanctioned shortcut skipping that hill but only one person (of the 8 on the ride) (not me) (I have a button somewhere that says TOO STUPID TO QUIT; should've worn it) took it. Total ride length was just about 20 miles. Afterward I decided I needed some potassium, and a little calcium wouldn't hurt. And there's protein in nuts, right?

(Some difficulty with the new version of the Strava app means it didn't get the first leg of the ride and the mileage is too low.)

Mini ice age! Nope.
Sheesh, the global warming denial industry is cranked—and I do mean cranked—into overdrive. The latest is a rehash of an old claim that we may be headed for a “mini–ice age” due to changes in the Sun’s magnetic activity affecting its output. Let me be very clear: no. I’ll repeat:...

Yet another reason why moving to the Pacific Northwest isn't on my to do list.

If one can't move Holmes to the PNW, perhaps the PNW will move itself to Holmes.
