Picked up some chalk pastels today and gave them a quick try.  I don't think I've used them since junior high, so about a million years ago.  Feels fun to get some colour happening.

I was thinking Penguin, but I agree that an Albatross, specifically an Albatross chick, is better.

There is a lovely thing on twitter called @Sketch_dailies where there is a theme for the day and you...well you sketch it.  My stuff is crap (of course) but it's worth following because there are an amazing number of great artists out there that submit every day.    I'll periodically dump my contributions into this g+ folder.

Cut open my first wheel of homemade brie.  Even though it appears to have suffered from "slip skin" (probably from not drying it enough before aging) it tastes just like brie.  Nice and gooey on the inside.  The other wheels I have aging feel a little better than this one so I'm hoping for some great cheese down the road.

After watching this video about exactly /how/ the NSA owns the internet, I no longer make fun of +Brian Fitzpatrick covering his laptop's built-in webcam with electrical tape.  I do it myself now.  Yes, it's an hour-long video, but well worth it.  It just keeps getting more and more insane toward the end, as +David Anderson points out.  Watch it all the way through.

I've been taking a drawing class at MRU.  It's been pretty basic up until this week.  But we've finally got into drawing freehand.  This exercise consists of sketching a still life in 4 minutes.  Then the same thing in 3 minutes, then 2, then 1.  Then finally from memory.  As bonus practice I put down the charcoal and did a pencil sketch too.  These won't win any beauty contests but I do see myself improving...slowly....

Thank you so much. Yeah, we've got to keep our noses to the grindstone and keep working on our craftsmanship. That's been my only concern: to learn the craft of drawing.
And you've definitely got an eye for it.

More lame arts.  Watching a little TCM this morning.  "Over the Moon" with Merle Oberon and Rex Harrison.

Two things:

First - What kind of an awesome name is Merle Oberon.
Second - Merle's fantastic ski outfit topped off by the jester's hat of a touque.

Day 3 of brie watch. Out of the mold. Now they need to dry a bit and lose their sheen before aging.
