Some pretty awesome things you can do with this.  Please check it out!

Today we are releasing the Media Effects API to the developer channel. This API provides a robust pipeline to compose visual effects onto Hangouts video calls. We've made accessible several fun and configurable visual effects, as well as face and hand tracking, that can be combined in creative ways.

We look forward to the crazy (and useful) things our developer community builds with these new features.

To learn more, check out our documentation, and, as always, we welcome feedback.

Cheers,
-Hangouts Team

Starting Hangout from your site: suggested invitees

Today we’re updating the Hangouts button that initiates video calls from websites. We’re giving site owners the ability to suggest invitees, so users can quickly start Hangouts with the right set of people. Whether it's your regular team meeting or collaborators on a document, it's now a lot easier to get the right people on the same video call.

Developers like +Lucidchart, +Esna, +Insightly, and myERP are already using the new button. And you can view our updated documentation to try the feature yourself:

The Hangout button lets you to launch a Google+ Hangout directly from your site. When you use the button, you can set up the Hangout in a variety of configurations. For example, you can specify Hangout apps that launch along with the Hangout and setup the Hangout as a regular Hangout or a Hangout On Air.

Controls for a more professional broadcast...

Moderate your Hangouts On Air with the new Control Room

When hosting a Hangout On Air, it’s important that you have the tools to create the best experience possible. This includes having the controls to adjust the audio and video levels of your participants so viewers can simply enjoy the show.

Today we’re rolling out the Control Room. Control Room allows the host to manage participants by adjusting their audio levels and hiding or revealing their video. You’ll find it in the sidebar of Hangouts On Air when it comes to your account in the next few days.

We hope this helps you deliver an even more professional broadcast to your audience. Give the Control Room app a try and let us know what you think!

More API goodness for you all...

Hello Hangouts Developers!

Today we are releasing the Telephone APIs to the developer channel. These allow you to start and end phone calls and to send dial tones (press 1 for …). Because some telephone calls cost money your app will need to include an extra OAuth scope to use these APIs.

For more information see the documentation (link attached).

We look forward to seeing your use of these APIs and, as always, welcome feedback.

Cheers,
-Hangouts Team

on #2: at this point, the HOA's UI doesn't allow the call (unlike for an HVC).

A fun new Hangout app.  Make your own effects!

Hello G+!

We are happy to announce a new Hangout app that allows you add drawings on your friend's faces (and your own if you really want) inside a Hangouts video call.  With Draw, you can draw your own effects (like mustaches!) with our pencil and eraser tool or choose from one of our preset stamps.   This has been a personal 20% project +Caio Tenca, +Jay Wong, +Kevin Schmidt and myself have been work on for the last few months and we are looking forward to seeing your in-hangout creations!

Look for Draw under the list of featured Hangout apps or by simply going to:
https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/?gid=draw

A special thanks to +XTRAPOP  for the amazing set of stamps!

I work for a website that streams live comedy improv over google hangouts. Is there a way to use this button and have the video instantly embed to our own website?

Hangouts app developers, we are currently tracking a bug where `gapi.hangout.getStartData()` may return `null` in the `gapi.hangout.onApiReady` callback instead of the appropriate value.

We are working on an official fix. In the mean time please wait for both the [gapi.hangout.onAppVisible](https://developers.google.com/+/hangouts/api/gapi.hangout#gapi.hangout.onAppVisible) and `gapi.hangout.onApiReady` events before trying to access `gapi.hangout.getStartData`.

Sorry for the inconvenience! I will update here as I get additional information.

Just in time for the holidays, another update for Hangouts.

Updating the Hangouts button: On Air, better apps support, and a new look

Today we’re releasing an update to our Hangouts button for starting video calls from your site that includes:

- The ability to start Hangouts On Air and Hangout parties in addition to regular video calls.
- New features for apps, including the ability to run multiple apps, and to automatically launch apps for everyone that joins the call.
- A new visual style and markup that’s more consistent with other Google+ buttons (+1, Share, etc.) and enables features like multi-language support.

Please check out our new documentation here: https://developers.google.com/+/hangouts/button

SOLD!! Time to get into Plex.

10 new apps are #NowCasting with Chromecast!

Beginning today you can enjoy action sports, news, music videos, and more with the addition of VEVO, Red Bull.TV, Songza, PostTV, Viki, Revision 3, and BeyondPod. And for those many holiday gatherings, you can also cast your personal media straight to your TV using Plex, Avia, or RealPlayer Cloud. There’s no need to huddle around small screens when you can share your own photos and videos using your phone, tablet, or laptop.

Learn more about the supported apps and stay up to date about what's new at chromecast.com/apps. To start casting from these apps, make sure you have the latest versions for +Android or iOS, or use #Chrome to cast from your laptop.

Happy casting!

I took one of the first meetings with this team when they were starting the project.  It looked quite different.  :-)

A great use of Hangouts to get real problems solved.

When I first heard about Helpouts, I wasn't sure what to make of it. A system for people to sell their face-to-face services over Hangouts? What would it be used for?

It wasn't until I started hearing people telling me about ideas they had for it, like small business owners offering helpouts for people who need to (say) pick a phone or a piano, or teachers being able to teach classes from thousands of miles away, or even senior executives in major industries offering face time and advice for people who are starting up their own companies, that I realized just how wide the potential of this could be. And when I saw the interface to it, and how straightforward it was, I started to be convinced that this is something that could reach a really wide audience.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the future of Helpouts. I think this is a technology which could grow into something huge. What we launched today is only a small first step -- when you use it, you'll notice all sorts of things which aren't there yet. But I think you can see which way this is going, and there's something tremendously exciting in our future.
What if getting help for a computer glitch, a leaky pipe, or a homework problem was as easy as clicking a button? What if you could connect via real-time video to a music teacher or a yoga instructor from the comfort of your ...

Have loved this place forever. The various Mediterranean plates are excellent; I always get the chicken kebabs, and love the mix of sides that come with it. Hummus is great too. All in all an excellent neighborhood restaurant.

Exactly what I was looking for, a quick place to have a good, non-fast food breakfast. I had the crab cake florentine: eggs were perfectly cooked though the crab cakes were a little overdone, still quite delicious. Iced Americano was a bit bitter at first but ended up well. Overall a good local breakfast place (and less than a block from my hotel, too!)
