Next time I'll use a telescope.
The intermittent clouds posed a significant contrast problem but I was determined to proceed. Even though I held the binocs as well as I could, with my elbows pressed against my sides while almost on my back in a lounge chair, I didn't really see the Lambda Geminorum occultation as it happened. I had to hold my breath to gain steadiness and the occultation happened as I was gasping for a new breath and my hands shook momentarily. So the event had just occurred when I again was holding my breath and could see clearly. Danged shaky hands... A telescope would also have enabled me to exclude the Moon and just see the star on a black background. This would have helped with the contrast issue as well as eliminate the shaky hands issue.
