Fantastic little cafe with a clear passion for their product and service. Beans roasted by nearby Carrboro Coffee Roasters, complete with guide to source of beans from around their world.

Thanks so much Michael!

It's a great place to relax, meet a friend or work. The wi-fi always works great and the baristas are the friendliest around. They have some great drinks, including a lot of blends they make themselves, which are fabulous.

Respite is one of the quieter coffee shops I've encountered in Durham - which was great for my visit, as I was able to easily find a table and get a good amount of work done (they have free wifi and a variety of different seating). They serve Carrboro Coffee Co. coffee and the cappuccino I ordered was tasty. They also have a wide variety of teas and baked goods available for sale, as well as a lunch menu. I visited in the middle of a weekday and there was no problem finding a spot on Duke street in front of the shop.

If Cocoa Cinnamon is the best place to get coffee in Durham, than Respite is the best place to get tea. They have over 50 different kinds of tea there, including several proprietary blends, and many imported herbals. I've tried their coffee and agree with other reviewers that it's just okay (stiff competition in Durham), but no one in town can meet or beat them in terms of tea selection. Perfect place to stop in on a blustery fall or winter day and grab a hot cuppa' to ward off your threatening cold. Comfy couches, friendly staff, and big windows complete the atmosphere and make it a fun place to hang out and work in with your pot of tea. Good pastries, too. A hidden gem, in this reviewer's opinion.

Some really great teas with English scones, clotted cream and jam - what more can you ask for? There's plenty of comfortable seating, free wifi for the laptop crowd and a relaxing ambience about the place that makes it all the more enjoyable after a hard day of touristing around the area. The servers seems to be perpetually happy and nothing is too much trouble - definitely a place I look forward to returning to.

Thanks James!

Great local coffee shop. Extensive list of teas (I tried the Green Mandarin). The vibe is also what I was looking for- people on their Macs, people reading the newspaper, eclectic things on which to sit, and ambient music.

Respite is small, attractive ambience, and has potential. As soon as the baristas become consistent in making mochas I will give them a 4 or maybe even 5 star - I have had 3 mochas over 3 months and they all were consistently different.

While we cam and do add flavor to all those iced #coffee, #lattes, and the like you all have been ordering recently, we love,to,play with additions to our smoothies. Seen here is a pineapple with fresh mint (jalapeño syrup is also great in it) and pineapple strawberry with chia. Refreshing on yet another 100 degree day!

Thank you to all who voted for Ali Linn as best #barista in #Durham county in The Indy week. It's great that you all recognize the amazing service she provides and an honor to be included with Beantraders and Cocoa Cinnamon!

Today SCOTUS found that marriage is a fundamental right, granted through the Constitution's right to dignity. This right is for us all, along with all the enumerated rights and the others like privacy found under the 14th amendment. This opinion is a glowing tribute to precedents, the history of marriage, the dignity of marriage and child rearing and a living constitution.

Here is just one bit from it (page 15 I believe)

"From their beginning to their most recent page, the annals of human history reveal the transcendent importance of marriage. The lifelong union of a man and a woman always has promised nobility and dignity to all persons, without regard to their station in life. Marriage is sacred to those who live by their religions and offers unique fulfillment to those who find meaning in the secular realm. Its dynamic allows two people to find a life that could not be found alone, for a marriage becomes greater than just the two persons. Rising from the most basic human needs, marriage is essential to our most profound hopes and aspirations."

Congrats to all whose rights were enshrined today and to all of us as a nation!

Hello Scarlet! A new to us herbal @rishitea that I love as it reminds me of Karkadé had on travels. Haven't tried it iced yet, but if anything like that was will be divine.
