I think they originally were used in 2D printers, then they got popular with 3D printers. Their availability was spotty at best when I asked. They're more of them available now, but they haven't been found to be as reliable as other motor options.

I read the magazine and i think its a good product, with a few grammatical errors. Except for that the only thing i had issue with was the hotend tests, from what i could glean from the reading materials I don't believe that the test was very consistent from hotend to hotend. basically there were too many variables in my opinion to allow for proper testing. i have to say that the attempt was great tho.
