Pool time has arrived to stay!

We're on May already, the sun is very hot here in Florida, and we all want to go to the beach or our community's pool. The #1 amenity with residents is a sense of community - remember happy residents don’t move! The pool is a great place for your residents to meet their neighbors.

Here are some safety tips for Children during these hot days:

1- Watch kids when they are in or around water, without being distracted. Keep young children within arm’s reach of an adult. Make sure older children swim with a partner every time.

2- Teach children how to swim. Every child is different, so enroll children in swim lessons when they are ready. Consider their age, development and how often they are around water.

3- Make sure kids learn how to swim and develop these five water survival skills:

- Step or jump into water over their heads and return to the surface; float or tread water for one minute; turn around in a full circle and find an exit; swim 25 yards to exit the water, and exit the water. If in a pool, be able to exit without using the ladder.

4- Teach children that swimming in open water is not the same as swimming in a pool. They need to be aware of uneven surfaces, river currents, ocean undertow and changing the weather.

5- Know what to do in an emergency. Learning CPR and basic water rescue skills may help you save a child’s life.

It's Earth Week!!!

Maintaining your yard in a traditional manner isn’t always the “greenest” endeavor. Whether it’s using chemical-laden pesticides and fertilizer or working with greenhouse gas-producing lawn tools, some methods of lawn upkeep can be tough on the environment. Thankfully, there are plenty of eco-friendly ways you can keep your yard looking lush. So reduce your carbon footprint, and try some of these simple tips:

- Conserve water by watering your lawn more heavily but less often. By doing this, you’re ultimately using less water because the heavier watering lasts longer, allowing you to spread out how often you have to water your lawn. Also, watering in the early morning or early evening gives water a chance to soak into the soil without evaporating as it would during the hottest parts of the day. Finally, consider switching to water-saving sprinklers and hose nozzles.
