I should have someone come in to fix my AC unit. It is currently not working which is fine for now. It is going to get really hot in a month or two so I want to have it fixed by then.

The #1 way to extend the life of your air conditioning system is to change the filter regularly! #2 is to have your system maintenanced once a year. You wouldn't drive your car for more than a year without changing the oil, etc. Same goes for your home air conditioning system. Every dollar spent on maintenance will save you hundreds of dollars on repair and replacements!

When I bought my home I used REM air for service. I was very pleased with the company. I had a new air conditioner installed by another company. Bad mistake I found out. The installation was done halve A--. For 2 years I received the run around from the company. I called REM Air and they came out repaired the poor installation, fixed all the problems. The peace of mind alone was worth the price. I would recommend this company to anyone. I would also like to say that spending a little more at first, is well worth the peace of mind I have now.

I called at 4pm and had a tech in my driveway by 5pm. Chris was very friendly, explained everything and I feel like he went over and above. The pricing did seem a bit high, but as I mentioned he did a lot of work including the clean up of a poor install. Overall, I was very pleased.

When I came home my house registered at 93 degrees.I telephoned REM a/c and in 30 minutes Chris arrived. Chris was smart, intelligent, thorough trustworthy, compassionate to my need, respectful and neat.He thoroughly checked all components to find out the problem. You could tell he was very knowledgeable .He gave me an estimate before he repaired anything.I was so taken with his professionalism that I also had him to service my unit. This additional service was completed like I have never seen any other A/C technician do it.My unit looks brand new and it is 10 years old.. I was amazed and told Chris that I would recommend his company to my friends who have a problem with their unit.I am so satisfied with the work that was done that the cost became a non-factor. I am truly a customer of REM in the future. Thanks Chris

Questionable at best, shady if you ask me. I called because my AC blower stopped working. They said the service call would be $85 (diagnostic fee) but would be waived if I needed/purchased service. Sounded fair. The guy came out and discovered my blower motor needed to be replaced. The unit is less than 3 years old so the parts are under warranty, just not the labor. He gave me a quote of $680 to replace blower motor! And here's the shady part... He said it would normally cost me $1250 if I had to buy the part, they normally charged $780, but if I agreed to the service "right now" it would "only" be $680! I asked how it was so much if the part was under warranty, he wouldn't even look me in the eye and started mumbling about, shipping costs, labor, delivery fee... Nonsense. I asked how much he was charging for the labor (it's an hour job, or less...), he couldn't tell me. I told him I didn't feel comfortable with that pressure to agree on the spot, I asked if I could do a little research with the manufacturer (Carrier) and then get back to him, and would he still honor the $680 and waive the $85 diagnostic fee, as agreed. He said, nope, if he left I would have to pay the fee plus the full amount if he had to come back (keep in mind, he had to leave anyway to go get the part...). I said I wouldn't do that, so he charged me the $85 and left. I called another company, got the part, a free diagnostic (second opinion), and they quoted me $247! And they bill by the quarter hour so if it takes less time they will subtract it from the bill. I am convinced REM was trying to take advantage of the fact I was desperate to get the AC fixed in the middle of a hot summer day. So I'm still out the $85 I paid them, but thank goodness I didn't get suckered into the $680! If I were you I would look elsewhere! UPDATE: RESPONSE TO "OWNER": No tech had been "dispatched", as I changed my mind 3 minutes after agreeing and doing a google search to realize I was getting fleeced. Tech was still in my driveway. I will reiterate - I had the warranted part replaced for under $300 by a reputable, Carrier-authorized dealer. This price included ordering the part, applicable shipping/handling and labor, which again, took less than an hour to take out the blower, replace the motor, put the blower back and check the system out. This also included their $69 diagnostic fee. You cannot justify or rationalize $680 labor for a ONE hour job on a warranted part. And sadly - yes, you are correct - you are "in line" with many others. That doesn't mean any of you are honest, it just means you all fleece your customers because you know most people don't take the time to do the research.

Mr Hess, I appreciate your time to review our business. I’m sorry your experience was not up to your standards. We work hard to keep our customers comfortable in their homes. In this case, our tech went out to the home in Land O Lakes and diagnosed the issue. The part was under warranty, but the labor was not. We quoted $680 to do the repair. This included: the diagnosis by the technician, sending a second tech to the supply house in Tampa then driving the part to Land O Lakes, installation of the part and warrantying the work. The homeowner agreed to the repair so we dispatched the second technician to pickup the part and bring it to the home. While in route, the customer changed his mind. Our pricing is very much in line with other reliable and professional HVAC companies in the area. If you prefer to diagnose the issue and buy parts on your own and then hire an hourly technician to do the repair, you can surely save some money. But you lose the labor warranty and also an hourly technician can take advantage by taking 2-4x longer than they originally quote. So often what looks like a savings turns out to be more costly. We’ve been in business since 1976 under that same ownership. We have thousands of happy new and returning customers over the years. This shows that we do fine work and always do the right thing by our customer. If you have any problems with your system in the future we would be happy to help you. Thanks.

GET A SECOND OPINION!! Contacted rem to inspect our AC as it was no longer blowing cool air. After inspecting the unit, the repairman said I had an evaporator leak, which after a second opinion, was true. Also went up the ladder of my attic, didn't go in and then proceeded to tell me I needed my ductwork patched. I don't see how you would know I need patch work if you don't actually go in my attic and some they could see in the dark as they didn't turn on a light or use a flashlight. Rem repairman proceeds to quote me almost $3000 dollars for a replacement coil. Or he said I could replace the entire system for approximately $7,500. He gave me the option of just servicing the unit with freon at $100 a pound. I got another opinion and I patched my old unit for with Freon at $300, I also decided to purchased new unit which was an upgrade from what I had for $4700 installed. REM is over priced and will scam you. Please get a second opinion and educate yourself on how your A/C works. Nice try REM, will never call you again, you lost my business and I will make sure I tell everyone I know not to use you in the future. Unethical, Bad business practice. Fair and honest is always going to get you more business.

Kevin, We respect every single customer we server. In this case I feel your harsh comments are unwarranted though. We’ve been in business in Tampa under the same ownership since 1976. I can tell you that our ethics are what have kept us in business for so many years while many other hvac companies only last a few years. In this case, your AC was not cooling. We came out and determined the evaporator coil was leaking freon, causing the Freon to be extremely low. The evaporator is a major part of an hvac system. We quoted you 3 options to fit different budgets. Most companies would have just had pushy salesman show up and try to push you to buy a new unit without any other options. The cheapest option we offered was to add Stop Leak and additional Freon to the system. This is a short term fix, but cheap. The next option was to replace the evaporator coil. This option cost a few thousand dollars, but still leaves a good portion of your aged system in place. The last option was to replace the entire system with a more energy efficient high SEER unit, which made the most sense due to the age of the system. Whenever we quote for a new system installation, we evaluate the ductwork. Many companies skip this step and just slap the new system onto whatever old decrepit ductwork is in place, which is often not sealed properly and not sized properly from the old system to the new system. In your case, the quote included sealing the existing ductwork, enlarging the existing return as required by the larger system, and also installing new ductwork for the return. This is all additional work and material that is required to have your new system operating at top performance without issue. If you used the old ductwork the new system would be straining to pull the increased air flow through the old smaller return duct. As I said before, many installers skip many of these steps and you end up with a system that underperforms, works harder, and then wears out faster over time. So when comparing prices on quotes, comparing apples to apples is very important. Also consider, will the company be in business when if it breaks down next summer? I can tell you that we will be here for many years to come. Please take this info into account and then consider if you really feel you were scammed or just given a different price for different service.

We have used Rem AC for 20 years and never had an issue or unresponsive to service. We have had the same serviceman Dennis for all that time. We had an AC unit go out yesterday and here they are today. They call ahead, for when the person is on the way, they are professional and great value for money. I hardly ever endorse a company but for REM AC it is worth the time to send this endorsement. It's hard to find the good service companies. REM IS SUPERB!!!.

Came home to hot air blowing at 70 degrees setting...called REM air conditioning and Chris came out within 30 minutes mid afternoon on a Friday...he over exceeded my expectations with his professionalism and customer service...he made a not so great situation most positive and took his time to diagnose every issue the AC had but did not push sales tactics, just simply suggested remedies even though we already starated our repair....thank you chris for your service and lasting impression you are our new AC guy and we will be sure to request you!
