We'd like to invite you to the "Bright Lights Walk-a-thon" which will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 6 to 8 pm at Buffalo Park (in Flagstaff).

The National Honor Society (NHS) at Flagstaff Arts & Leadership Academy (FALA) would like to invite you to a fundraising event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.  Our NHS students have been working hard to put together a fundraising event that will help raise money to find a cure.  The event will be held at Buffalo Park at "night" and is a great way for our community to come out, have a good time, get some exercise, and raise awareness for this great organization. During the walk, there will be performances by FALA's African Drum & Dance class and other performances.  There will also be water stations along the way to keep you hydrated and glow sticks available for purchase.  The path around Buffalo Park will be lit by luminarias!

The event has a minimum pledge of $10 to participate (or $5 for children 12 years or younger).  Pledge sheets can be acquired by contacting FALA at 928-779-7223 for this amount.  On the pledge sheets, you will also have the opportunity to sign up others to "Pledge Your Walk" to raise even more money.  Regular tickets will also be sold for $12 the day of the event.

For more information or to purchase your pledge sheet, please contact FALA at 928-779-7223. Go to http://www.flagarts.com/documents/Walkathonposter.pdf for our flyer.

Join Flag Tech Talk on Wednesday, December 18th at 6 pm at Bookman's Cafe for a lecture entitled "Analyzing Your Website Statistics".  This discussion will be all about reviewing your website statistics to see how well your online marketing is going. This is one of the most underused benefits of having a website. No other form of marketing can give you so much information like: how many visitors have you had, how many pages have they looked at, where did they find you, what search words did they use to find you... We will be looking at a number of webstat programs that are standard on most web servers or can be installed into  your site like Webalizer, AwStats, Google Analytics, Yahoo/Bing stats, and a few others. Come make better use of your online marketing by learning about your website statistics!

This lecture is part of the Flag Tech Talk discussion series that is held on the third Wednesday of every month. This lecture will be presented by Joe Bodin of Reliable Web Designs. These free technical lectures are designed to help educate regular people so they understand more about computers, the internet, and the resources available to them when it comes to managing their small business or organization. They are sponsored by Reliable Web Designs, The Graphic Bean, and Coconino Community College SBDC. These are more personal discussions than lectures and we’d encourage everyone to come armed with questions…!

Join us for the next Flag Tech Talk lecture entitled "Going Mobile: Are You Ready for the Small Screen" which will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at 6 p.m. at Bookman's.

A huge portion of the public is now viewing websites on SmartPhones. This has led to a whole new view of how websites should look and function. Clearly you still want your core website to have lots of the information so that it has good content and is very searchable. So, the concept of making a separate Mobile Website or Webpage is now a new area that small businesses and non-profits should be considering. Along with this, there are now QR Codes (which are those box-like bar codes) that can be used to create an interactive experience with cell phone users. Come to this Flag Tech Talk to learn about how Mobile Websites and QR Codes can enhance your marketing.

The Northern Arizona Food Bank (NAFB) and New Hope Cottage (NHC) are teaming up to assist women in building work skills and credentials through a volunteer experience with NAFB to gain employment, a place to live, and stability for their future.  This project will initially allow up to six women in the NHC Discipleship Program, which helps women transition from homelessness, and the Genesis Program, which helps women through recovery issues, to volunteer with NAFB to build practical work experience and self-confidence in the workplace.

Women in this new partnership program will identify interests and needs, such as gaining their GED, computer training, restaurant food safety experience, or simply basic work skills.  This will then go into a plan for their participation in the program, creating an opportunity for each woman to take control of their future!

On the NAFB time sheets, the volunteers will earn "time credits" that will translate into money.  The money earned will be given to them for down payments, rent, and deposits that are required of the 18 month Genesis Program.  Once these women have successfully completed the program, they will then have a "nest egg" of savings, plus work experience, and also good credentials to help them transition into their new life with stability.

With the help of a generous grant from the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation, we have jointly raised the funding for this new partnership.  We hope to make this a successful program that will allow us to continue to expand so that more women can partake in this experience.  It is a great way for NAFB to have a positive volunteer core, while giving the women within the NHC program a way to grow and move to a better place in their lives.

For more information, please call NAFB at 928-526-2211 to learn more about this great program.
