New blog post: Ducks Workbox {Workbox Wednesday} - I’m a day late but I have to share the fun Ducks workbox full of activities that Strawberry and I have been enjoying! Each of these activities is included in my ducks picture books product. Her favorite activity was definitely the Clothespins Clip-it Habitat cards set. She loved finding the item in the duck pond that did not belong! After we played it once, she was excited to do it again to “accidentally” get the wrong ... http://ow.ly/2XaPb4

New Book Review The Sound of Music Story by Tom Santopietro - The Sound of Music Story by Tom Santopietro (St. Martin’s Press, 2015) is a celebration and explanation of how a story about a “beguiling” novice becoming the stepmother to singing children became (or inspired), as the book claims “the most beloved film of all time.” It takes a true fan of The Sound of Music to be an eager reader of this book, and I am not surprised to find that I must not be alone, since thi... http://ow.ly/2X7Die

New blog post: A Workbox for a Big Kid (Workbox Wednesday) - My toddler is ill today, so I thought I’d focus on how I organize my older child’s daily work in a workbox instead of the little ones! Raisin is in second grade this year. This is a difficult grade for me to get my mind around, simply because I know what he is capable of doing independently, but he does not always approach school with the confidence I know he can. He still needs parent guidance in getting all ... http://ow.ly/2WNTNw

New Book Review 999 Frogs (Two Books by Ken Kimura) - My son and I enjoyed 999 Tadpoles by Ken Kimura dn Yasunari Murakami (May 2011) when we read it years ago, so I was excited to see the two sequels to it in our local library. 999 Frogs Wake Up (North South, 2013) is a fitting read for the beginning of spring. As the frogs emerge from the mud after a long winter, Mother Frog is disturbed when she only counts 998 of her babies. Where is the last one? When Big Brother i... http://ow.ly/2WqorL

New blog post: Rainbow Busy Box (Workbox Wednesday Linkup) - I have not been very good at planning ahead our workboxes each week to meet the holidays. Since yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day (and I don’t think either child was dressed in green!) I figured it was time to belatedly do something somewhat related. Today we’re about Rainbows! My main activity today was a Cut-and-Paste Rainbow using paint chip squares and images in all colors of the rainbow. I had a pile of pai... http://ow.ly/2W9AVy

New Book Review How We Learn by Benedict Carey - I read How We Learn by Benedict Carey (Random House, September 2014) at much the same time as I read Born Reading, so I found the correlation between the two quite interesting. Both books were written for very different and unique reasons and for different audiences. But, since I’m a homeschooling mom, I found that I was an appropriate audience for both! How We Learn is definitely a more technical book, with plenty of ref... http://ow.ly/2VVXTG

New Book Review Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse - Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse (1998 Newbery Medal Winner) is a young adult novel in poetry about the difficulties of dust bowl living in the 1930s. A changing industry, magnified by severe drought and the Great Depression, meant that farming in rural Oklahoma was more difficult than ever. But Billie’s difficulties are compounded. It’s hard enough being on the brink of womanhood, but when tragedies strike, nothing will ev... http://ow.ly/2Vxcye
