PINSENT MASONS [ completed project ] Visitors to this Law Practice in Central Plaza will notice that the ceiling features a series of decorative timber fins that continue into the Boardroom and also extend into the adjacent Meeting Rooms. The fins comprise part of a design feature that nearly encircles the entire floor and is based on the stylized Pinsent Masons mobius strip logo that features in all of their collateral.
The idea for the mobius strip ‘feature’ came about during the planning stages for the new and expanded office. Once the decision was taken to proceed with the timber fins in the Conference Suite, however, the question became how to carry this design through to the private areas that most visitors never see, and how to do so in a more efficient way.
The solution was to use a contrasting, solid-colour carpet that matches the firm’s logo colour and sweeps through the back of house to continue the super-graphic effect. Part of the mobius strip is therefore still present, but in a flatter manner than in the ceiling detail used at the public areas. The link between the public and private sections of the premises is the Pinsent Masons Café - where, in a departure from both the timber fins and the contrasting carpet, it was decided to incorporate simple white painted fins in this otherwise open-ceilinged space.

CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL [ project news ]
You wouldn't have seen the otherwise highly talented Chow Yun-fat at the Academy Awards this week in his 2014 film "From Vegas to Macau" which is a shame because it features the ballroom from our award winning hotel, The Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East. The biggest hotel ballroom in Hong Kong, the room can cater for up to 960 in a formal dining setting with 80 tables of 12. It works equally well for wedding receptions, formal dinners or conferences alike and can be subdivided into 3 areas or combinations of 2. Its striking element is the ceiling lighting sculpture of suspended glass 'fish' that appear to swirl in shoals above the guests and whose sense of movement is reflected in the carpet. SEASPAN [ completd project ] Vancouver-based Seaspan Corporation have recently opened new premises on a high floor of AIA Tower in North Point where a standard 20 TEU container, magically ‘relocated’ to the 35th floor, greets visitors and staff alike. The container houses the firm’s café, and links the front-of-house conference rooms to the working areas and large IT department. A substantially open-plan working area features a photomontage of three ships on an oversized compactus – lending a bit of colour to this otherwise utilitarian space. PACIFIC CIGAR COMPANY [ completed project ] Purveyors of Cuban tobacco products and accessories, The Pacific Cigar Company have moved to the 16th floor of the Guangdong Investment Tower on Gloucester Road. Connoisseurs of the noble leaf may be familiar with their boutique lounges dotted around Hong Kong, themes of which are reflected in the design of this new office.
The cool reception contrasts with the warmth of the conference room; the former picks up on the banded cigar labels and the latter, on the mustard yellow of stuccoed buildings in Havana. In both, the chequerboard floor nods to the passion for chess played in the cafés and on the pavements in and around the Plaza de la Revolućion...http://www.rb.com.hk/projects/workplace/detail/96
