Peter Sondergaard, Sr. VP at Gartner, has described big data as the new oil of the 21st Century, and analyzing that data is what keeps the engine running – rich in information, the future can be predicted and thus refined.  I am not sure I agree – I have drug my feet when it comes to espousing the goodness of big data.

Yes, the informational content is valuable, but only if we actually do something about it.

Is there a social conundrum for HR? Why do we continue to talk about or deny that social media is a part of business today? It's making a difference and you have to work at it. It isn't easy and not everyone can do it and not everyone is doing it well. Who will suffer in the end? HR is the heart of a business and social media is the heart of communication today.
