#TeamGleason is working to find a cure for #ALS   (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).  Team Gleason was started by Steve Gleason, a former NFL player who was diagnosed with the disease in 2011.

Team Gleason works to increase public awareness for ALS, raise funds to empower those living with the disease to live rewarding lives, and works to find a #cure .

Steve Gleason's motto is "no white flags," never surrender to ALS.

Last month, Steve Gleason and several of his former teammates hiked in Peru and visited Machu Picchu.

Way to give back Kaepernick!

San Francisco Forty-Niners' Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has lots of tattoos, big biceps, and a big heart. The football star has lent his name and support to Camp Taylor. Camp Taylor offers programs for young people and families of children with heart disease.

"He truly has a heart of gold," said Camp Taylor Executive Director Kimberlie Gamino. At a recent visit, "He was supposed to come for three hours but stayed for seven. He has the unique ability to connect with kids...he's truly a hero."

"Quietly, Kaepernick donated a part of his first NFL check to Camp Taylor and has since formed a strong bond with the organization." (source: SF 49ers' blog).

"Kaepernicking" has become a phenomenon. Keapernicking T-Shirts are being sold by Sportique. A portion of the sales proceeds are being donated to Camp Taylor.

The people of Australia have been enduring numerous wildfires. Due to long droughts and high temperatures, the wildfires have been widespread and difficult to contain.

To date, there have been no deaths caused by the fires, but many hundreds of homes have been destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of acres of forest and farmland have been burned.

In Tasmania alone, an estimated 250 homes or buildings have been destroyed, and thousands of people have been displaced.

The Australian Red Cross has launched a Tasmanian Bushfires Appeal to solicit donations to help the victims of the fires.

You can learn more about the Tasmanian Bushfires Appeal and other efforts, at: www.redcross.org.au

Go Inspire Go recently featured a story about 6 year-old Nico Castro, a cancer patient who collected costumes and goodie bags for more than 50 children at the hospital so that they might have an enjoyable Halloween.

Several of GIG's videos have gone viral and have been seen on Good Morning America, AOL, and Yahoo.

Go Inspire Go welcomes donations to help "keep the stories coming."

Lego is pretty awesome for helping this kid out!

Why is LEGO being called the greatest company in the world!

The Huffington Post has a story and accompanying video about a Massachusetts boy who received a dream LEGO set after sending the company a letter.  The lad has Asperger's Syndrome, and had been saving up money for almost two years to buy the prized "Emerald Night Train" LEGO set.

When the time came to make his purchase, he was disappointed to find that the toy had been discontinued.  So, he wrote to the LEGO corporation.

Kiva co-founder Premal Shah says, "Kiva is a non-profit and makes no money from the loans we facilitate, instead we depend upon optional donations."

Zip caters especially to businesses that have a good "social edge," like small businesses that employ at-risk youth.

Every NFL team does its own charity work in its home city and its surrounding communities.

The NFL Foundation also supports a Disaster Relief Fund and a Player Care Foundation.

UNICEF is coordinating a campaign to deliver school desks to kids in Malawi.  K.I.N.D. (Kids in Need of Desks) is a project that will provide tens of thousands of kids an opportunity to sit at a desk while at school.

In Malawi, there is a severe shortage of classrooms and school furniture.  As a result, the children sit on dirt or concrete floors.  It is estimated that 4 out of 5 schoolkids in Malawi do not have a desk at school.

According to UNICEF, in sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 45 million children are unable to attend school.

The UNICEF website also has a link where people can pay for school scholarships for girls in Malawi. (includes tuition, room and board, textbooks, uniforms, etc).
