Bay Bridge in San Francisco, one of my favorite places to photograph! I used the multiple exposure setting on my Nikon D810 to merge two shots, one in focus, one defocused for the lights on the bridge, creating the circles of light. Texture and toning added with OnOne Software and Nik Collection. I hope everyone has a great day!

Creating sophisticated particle effects from scratch in Photoshop, such as sandstorms, is challenging and time consuming work.  Fortunately for us, an Australian genius who goes by the moniker "SevenStyles" developed a clever, customizable action that makes short work of producing dazzling sandstorm effects that look like they've been torn from a Hollywood movie poster.  In today's Photoshop Workbench tutorial, we'll dive deeply into using his $4 action to produce a spectacular sandstorm effect with unlimited possibilities.

Watch the tutorial (4-minute preview for non-members):

Let There Be Light
Grandview
Horseshoe Bend
New River Gorge

After discussing conditions at Babcock Grist Mill and the NRG area with a couple of buddies last week via texting, and watching the weather forecast for sunrise, I decided to set my alarm for 3:15 am and was on the road at 4:00 am heading for hopefully a good sunrise at Grandview. I was amazed at the amount of snow still in the New River Gorge area. The parking area at Grandview looked as if the park workers had taken only one swipe around the visitor center with the scraper. After I bundled up and got my gear ready, I trekked through the darkness to the main overlook in what appeared to be at least 20” of near knee deep snow. The temperature was showing 8 degrees and with about 1 hour until sunrise, I was praying for some good light. “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the dark…. Genesis 1:3.
