Ray Gordon, a native of New York City, received a Bachelor of Architecture and Masters of City & Regional Planning degrees from New York's renowned Pratt Institute. He was awarded a prestigious NYC Urban Fellowship and served on the Board of Trustees at Pratt. Ray has a unique combination of creative and operational strengths. He is an award-winning registered architect, communications expert, business management facilitator, graphic designer, photographer, and videographer and has held executive and management positions with a number of companies and government agencies in both the USA and Japan.
Ray is President of The Courage Group, a company that provides business management facilitation, communications solutions and marketing assistance to multi-national companies in Japan as well as the USA. He has spent the past 12 years doing business in Japan, and has recently committed more of his time to projects in the United States.
Ray's private sector work in New York City included a position as manager of a leading environmental sciences firm that developed environmental impact statements for many of the largest waterfront multi-use projects in the metropolitan New York region. His design experience included a partnership in a Manhattan architectural firm, project manager at New York's largest architectural-engineering firm, work with one of the leading historic restoration architects in New York City, and a social advocacy planner with the Pratt Center for Community & Environmental Development. With government agencies, he was Planning Coordinator for the Parks Department, a project manager at the Department of Ports & Terminals' Waterfront Development Group, and strategic planner for the Brooklyn Office of City Planning.
Ray is also a consultant to the International Finance Corporation, the private investment arm of the World Bank. Ray has been a principal on World Bank missions in developing countries, specializing in urban design, land planning, zoning and economic revitalization projects. In this capacity, Ray has developed comprehensive action plans to implement redevelopment programs in these countries on regional and national scales.
