Wanted to share this great article on how safety features like automated emergency brakes, backup cameras, and lane departure warnings have not had a direct impact, while well-intended, on the number of crashes in our country. #vehiclesafety #safety #vehiclesafety

Last night, the House Committee on Rules voted to consider two anti-safety amendments when the full House considers the upcoming year’s spending bills. One of the amendments would defund the Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) mandate that is set to take effect at the end of 2017. The other amendment, if passed, will prohibit federal agencies from finalizing the heavy vehicle speed limiter rule – effectively erasing all our years of progress on requiring truck speed limiters to be set.

Please call in to your Representative and urge them to vote NO on any amendment to block or delay the heavy vehicle speed limiter rule from being finalized and on any amendment to prohibit the implementation of the ELD mandate.

I was reading my monthly American Motorcyclist magazine, and at the very end was an article that really caught my interest regarding how we are all tied up with electronic communications.

The author’s point was about the impact this all has on our safety on the roads with drivers engaged with distracting driving.

The point was well made, and one that I’ve advocated against driving while “intexticated” for many years, but the theme of his article was centered on a one act play by Ray Bradbury written in 1953, three years before I was born, yet incredibly forward looking. #motorcyclesafety

“A day that will live in infamy…”
Yes, December 7th, not because it is my birthday, nor because I’ll cross into my 7th decade, but because as the world knows, it is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, and one that had world-wide implications.
Please take a moment and pause in thought and prayer for all the brave, hardworking men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our nation in times of war and in peace to keep you and your family and friends safe and prosperous in this, the greatest nation in the world.

Missouri Trout Fishers Association annual meeting

Last week nearly 90 folks gathered for the annual meeting which included both a great buffet dinner as well as a huge raffle which raised more than $600 dollars to be donated to local school children from disadvantaged families.

It was an evening of great friendship and holiday cheer by trout fishermen and women of all ages and backgrounds.

President Bob Randall will be succeeded by Harry Morgan for 2017, and Sam Stewart is now our president elect who will serve in 2018, along with the election of a full slate of other officers and committee members.

Thanks again to the hard work of the following for putting this all together: Program and Membership Chairs – Kim Schultz; Education Chair – Ralph Eichholz; Social Chair - Leslie Chastain and John Bush.
