Just want to say thanks for this show! I am currently "walking-challenged", and not sure how long ?I will be this way, but Mia's story really helped me today!

yes, you have to know the story!
There are a lot of surprises for aspiring voice talents who cross my path either as a student via Edge Studio, or just at, say, a party. You know, the ones with "such a nice voice" who need to read...

Some, including one angry reader reviewer of "Ben Behind His Voices" , advocate for "patient rights" to refuse treatment. We advocate for Ben's right to have a life, to rebuild his future.

yes, mental health professionals are overworked and overwhelmed...but this didn't have to happen. Better communication, organization, and more empathy for families can make your job easier.
Families cannot do it alone. The mental health system is complicated, full of red tape and cracks. Don't let us slip to the end of our ropes. Help us help.

"I’ve read a lot of books on mental health-related topics over the years and I have to say that this was one of the best. Randye is a great storyteller. While the book begins and ends in the present, it is open-ended with the future of Ben still to unfold.

I highly recommend this book and give it five stars."
thanks!

This sums it all so so beautifully. Please let me know if our story can help.  Without treatment (including family support) my son would be imprisoned, homeless, institutionalized in a sub-standard facility with no knowledge of his illness, or dead. With support and treatment? He is a college student, restaurant server, brother, son, friend and taxpayer. Treatment allows him to have a LIFE - and a chance at a future.

Representative Murphy is spot on. He truly did sum it up beautifully. I lost my maternal grandfather to schizophrenia before I had a chance to enjoy him as an adult.

We didn't understand it, or how to treat it in 1963, and the powers to be choose not to accept the responsibility to treat it in 2014. We need change, and we need it now!

God bless you and your family, but most of all, bless Ben and all that he has to offer us.

please share if you advocate for the right to have a future #mentalillnesstreatment
Are we "too involved" by insisting on treatment for mental illness? Should a caring, informed family "help"? The "right" to have a life and a future.

featured mental health advocate of the day - thanks!
Randye: I advocate for mental health because I know how my son's life was nearly shattered when he developed symptoms of schizophrenia, was hospitalized eight times, and lost so much of his future....

Last year, Saul Kellner responded immediately to my need for a roof repair. He arrived promptly and fixed the problem beautifully, on time, and at a reasonable price. Great work!
