"So far, the downsides of Android’s openness have been offset by the friendly, multifaceted culture around Android. Solid documentation from Google, the good people at Stack Overflow, our seven nation army of beta testers, the prospect of staged rollouts any time, a fully integrated testing process in the Play Store. Throughout our Android experience, we have seen a cheerful thankfulness towards developers long gone on the Apple ecosystem."

"Whenever the iOS people took a break from laughing at the stack of test devices, they were toiling away updating their app to work with one iOS upgrade after the other."

This is a response to +Daniel Miller's tweet about using a pre-paid service (https://twitter.com/dealingwith/status/570741350066290689)

I've been on Straight Talk's $45/month plan w/3GBs of data for about 3 years now and would never buy an on-contract phone ever again. It sounds completely insane to me now. They use AT&T's backbone so you get the same coverage you would from them and you get the benefit of GSM. Don't ever go with a CDMA MVNO or one that uses TMobile's service (eg: Ting). I've switched close to 10 people over to ST and have never had an issue.

That being said, Cricket has recently updated their plans and you can get their $50 plan down to $45 if you have it set to auto-pay which you are going to want to do anyway. You'll get 5GBs of data instead of the 3 Straight Talk gives you. My buddy and his wife just moved over this weekend and it was completely painless.

The biggest difference is that ST is mostly built to be set up online by yourself and Cricket is set up for you to go in to one of their popup stores. You can get ST set up inside of Walmart but I hear it's a terrible experience. I will also say that the customer support for Straight Talk is abysmal. I've never had to call but a family member has.

Those are the only 2 MVNOs that I would recommend currently unless you want to try your luck and wait for the anticipated service from Google/Motorola that is said to be launching soon.

As for what phone I'm currently on, I'm using a OnePlus (https://oneplus.net/) that you can buy outright for $299. The biggest drawback of the phone is the camera is just decent and I suppose many people would find it to be fairly large (myself included).

If you don't need a top of the line phone and want a smaller one, I would go with anything from Motorola (http://www.motorola.com/us/home).
“Any of you jumped off the AT&T or Verizon teat to a pay-per-MB plan like @tingFTW or the like? What phone? Pleased?”
