This makes sense... How many of us are actually in our shed after dark anyways? Maybe have both and save energy for 9/10 times that you will need some extra light. Thanks for the share.
But don't try this with a cola bottle where the bottom is all black plastic!
I wonder if they need to fill it with water to help diffuse the light.

At a museum, I once saw a "light-gathering device" used indoors in the days of candles, consisting of a clear sphere of water suspended below a candle above a table, to concentrate the candlelight. It was used so someone could see their sewing when they worked at night.
