Dr. Ralph Stanley is an icon among icons. Never has there been a better nor more distinctive, unique, and readily recognizable voice in any genre of music.  He can neither be successfully imitated nor duplicated.  Equally revered in both Old Time and Bluegrass, Ralph Stanley is and will always be one of my very most favorite singers to listen to.

Oh ...I almost forgot...Did I mention that I like Ralph Stanley ?

If a piece of land is free from human intervention, a forest will naturally self-seed and take over within a period of around 600 to 1,000 years. Akira Miyawaki’s methodology amplifies that growth process to establish a mature, native forest in ten years.

With his company Afforestt, eco-entrepreneur Shubhendu Sharma is creating mini-forest ecosystems using an accelerated method. It’s based on the practices of Japanese forester Akira Miyawaki, as well as on Sharma’s own experie...

Work
Occupation
I work as a computer engineer, designing and programming SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems and doing energy management control. While I've concentrated in C++ and C programming, I have also dabbled in circuit board design, embedded systems, client / server software, as well as some web work.

Introduction
I'm a lover of bluegrass music and play 5-string banjo with my band Bluegrass & Beyond. We play regionally and have released two CD's, Living' a Dream and Cover of the Bluegrass News. We do a mixture of original and cover material in a traditional bluegrass style. Bluegrass & Beyond is a great bunch of guys, and I couldn't ask for a better outlet for my music. I like a wide variety of music, so its not uncommon for my MP3 player to transition from Flatt & Scruggs to Meat Loaf to Steve Earle to Merle Haggard to Ozzie Osborne. You could get musical whiplash hanging out with me!

When I'm not pickin' the 5, you can usually find me reading or watching science fiction or fantasy. I cut my teeth on the likes of Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, and Poul. While I prefer hard SF, I also enjoy a good fantasy ranging from LOTR to Highlander to Pern. My favorite TV SciFi has to be Babylon 5 with Star Trek: DS9 a close second. I'm not a great fan of Hollywood's "let's blow up a lot of stuff and have some icky BEM's (bug eyed monsters) eating people" kind of scifi.
