He cited AI safety as one of the three things he thinks about most—the other two being sustainable energy and becoming a multi-planet species, i.e. Tesla and SpaceX. Musk is a smart motherfucker, and he knows a ton about AI, and his sincere concern about this makes me scared.

What's it like to meet Elon Musk? Another excellent post from Wait But Why. Excerpt:
"[Musk's] response included the following words: hypersonic, rarefied, densifying, supersonic, Mach 1, Mach 3, Mach 4, Mach 5, vacuum, regimes, thrusters, nitrogen, helium, mass, momentum, ballistic, and boost-back. While this was happening, I was still mostly blacked out from the surreality of the situation, and when I started to come to, I was scared to ask any questions about what he was saying in case he had already explained it while I was unconscious."
When you pick up the phone, you don't expect Elon Musk to be on the other line.

I wrote a thing about the Hugo Awards
This is the Hugo Award. You may have heard of it. Hugo Award nominees and winners are chosen by supporting or attending members of the annual World Science Fiction Convention, or Worldcon. You have heard something about that recently. The Hugo Award is named after Hugo Gernsback. This is Hugo Gernsback: In addition to inventing those awesome television glasses, he spent years trying to make the word “Scientifiction” happen. “When I co...

Work
Occupation
I work as a computer engineer, designing and programming SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems and doing energy management control. While I've concentrated in C++ and C programming, I have also dabbled in circuit board design, embedded systems, client / server software, as well as some web work.

Introduction
I'm a lover of bluegrass music and play 5-string banjo with my band Bluegrass & Beyond. We play regionally and have released two CD's, Living' a Dream and Cover of the Bluegrass News. We do a mixture of original and cover material in a traditional bluegrass style. Bluegrass & Beyond is a great bunch of guys, and I couldn't ask for a better outlet for my music. I like a wide variety of music, so its not uncommon for my MP3 player to transition from Flatt & Scruggs to Meat Loaf to Steve Earle to Merle Haggard to Ozzie Osborne. You could get musical whiplash hanging out with me!

When I'm not pickin' the 5, you can usually find me reading or watching science fiction or fantasy. I cut my teeth on the likes of Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, and Poul. While I prefer hard SF, I also enjoy a good fantasy ranging from LOTR to Highlander to Pern. My favorite TV SciFi has to be Babylon 5 with Star Trek: DS9 a close second. I'm not a great fan of Hollywood's "let's blow up a lot of stuff and have some icky BEM's (bug eyed monsters) eating people" kind of scifi.
