WCARSVEC amateur radio exams, 3-26-15 ... graduates of the free how-to-become-a-ham class -- taught at AB Tech in Asheville NC -- realize their dream yesterday evening. As the final session of the class, the WCARSVEC (Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society Volunteer Examiner Coordinator) conducted their license test. Test results, filed to the FCC via Internet, were back in about 30 minutes. Those that passed (almost everyone!) had their license, amateur radio callsign, and permission from the FCC to begin operating on the ham frequencies immediately!

Participants also got free membership in WCARS (Western North Carolina's largest organization of ham radio operators).
