With everything that's been going on in this country of late, ... #PatriotAct #NDAA #PIPA #SOPA #CISPA #CitizensUnited #BudgetDeficit #NationalDebt #OWS #Occupy ... , the list is seemingly endless, I thought that it was appropriate to revisit our roots as a people and as a nation.

A lot of people seem to be fond of telling you what the Founding Fathers said, thought or intended but, at least to me, this closing from the last letter written by Thomas Jefferson regarding the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence holds particular significance. (emphasis is my own)

"All eyes are opened, or opening to the rights of man. The general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born ,with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god. These are grounds of hope for others. For ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them. ..."

BTW, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the same day, July 4, 1826.
