I can finally announce my new job. I’m going to Yahoo. I’ll be editorial director of the new Yahoo Tech site, working with David Pogue, other great writers like Rob Pegoraro, Rob Walker, Deb Amlen, Dan Tynan, Alyssa Bereznak, and awesome editor Jason Gilbert. It’s an exciting opportunity to create great mainstream content about tech and I can’t wait to dig in. Wish me luck!

Evernote Accelerator Mixer next week!

When: Wednesday, October 23rd, 6:00pm.
Where: Evernote HQ, 305 Walnut Street, Redwood City, CA

The brand-new Evernote Accelerator is about to start. Our six great international teams will get a full startup curriculum, a series of workshops with our engineers, field trips to Silicon Valley landmarks, and, most importantly to YOU, a series of evening open house events. So come hang out with us and the Evernote Accelerator teams and hear some cool speakers on topics you'll find fascinating. Oren Michels, the CEO of Mashery, will give a talk at our first mixer, called, "A tour of the API unknown."

If you can check any of these boxes, you'll want to attend this event:

☐ I want to hear from Oren about interesting APIs I can use in my projects.

☐ OMG I love Evernote. I want to hang out with you.

☐ Your Accelerator sounds cool. I want to learn more about it and meet the teams.

☐ Free drinks at Evernote with your engineers? Sign me up! (Use code "friends" on the Eventbrite page.)

Reserve your spot now.

And check out our calendar of future events at http://bit.ly/1gi7KIp. There's one each week while the Accelerator is running.

See you next week!

I mistakenly set up a Dropbox <-> Sugarsync sync loop briefly, I think, since I have over two million tiny Dropbox subdirectories in my Sugarsync temp folders on my Win 7 PC. Not good. And there is apparently no quick way to delete two million anything in Windows. Help?

Evernote releases new stuff all the time, but once a year things go bananas here and the whole company syncs up to put on a big product and developer extravaganza called the Evernote Conference (discount tickets: http://bit.ly/ecrafe30; email me if you're press)..

This year it's going to be even more awesomer than previous years. There's a ton going on and some of it I'm involved in. Here are my  bits:

Sep 26, 10am: After CEO Phil Libin's keynote (don't miss his announcements), I'll introduce our six independent Devcup finalists. These are the best startups teams working with the Evernote Platform. They are doing some really cool stuff with our APIs.

Sep 26, 3pm: I'm doing a panel discussion: The Future of Online Content Consumption, with Dave Winer (RSS pioneer, Small Picture CEO), Edwin Khodabakchian (CEO, Feedly), Nate Weiner (CEO, Pocket), and Jakob Bignert (Product Manager, Evernote Clipper).

Sep 26, 5pm: I get to introduce Chris Anderson (CEO, 3D Robotics; former Editor-in-Chief of Wired) for his Day 1 closing keynote

Sep 27, 4pm: We announce the three Devcup winners and also the participants in the first class of the Evernote Accelerator (which is my pet project). We'll have a special surprise guest presenter, too.

That's just my small part of the show. There's tons more, including cool speakers and great workshops. Sorry for the commercial nature of this update, but this thing is my life now and I'm really proud to be part of it.

See you there! Get your friends-of-Rafe discount ticket code for Evernote Conference at http://bit.ly/ecrafe30

So states and local retailers got their way, and now Amazon has to charge state sales tax. But this is the unintended consequence: An all-out attack on local retail that turns Amazon's new liability into an asset.

Once Amazon had to charge sales tax, it had no reason not to open local distribution centers around the country, to take advantage of delivery efficiency. And now that it's running those distro centers, why not make them into freaking droneports?

If consumers can get what they want in less time than it takes to drive to the store, what happens to local retail shops and chains that the sales tax ruling was supposed to protect?

Bezos plays better chess.
