+karen talley It is not that easy to tell! Balls were held under the auspices of different patronesses, but these varied over time. There also seemed to be a stricter regime in the middle of the Regency period when Lady Jersey was the leading patroness than before. Not sure how they were chosen as such - I've never read anything that tells you.
