Always good to bring this topic up for discussion. Nicely done!

RPG Research's founder has been RPGing since the 70s, and paid (money) as a GM since '83. but also runs free games with friends and community programs, all have their place.

There are now both volunteer and contract paid positions listed on Indeed.com (and previously Zip Recruiter) for many RPG professional related positions.

For those not aware, while RPG Research consists of non-profit volunteers focused on research and community programs related to role-playing games, the for-profit company RPG Therapeutics LLC provides professional services using role-playing games in entertainment, educational, entertainment, recreational, and therapeutic settings.

Also establishing professional standards of practice through professional training, online courses, on-site facilities training workshops, certification programs, publications, training videos, and upcoming books beginning with: RPG Professionals Handbook due for publication around December ISBN: 978-0-692-16185-2. And has wheelchair accessible "mobile game rooms" through the RPG Bus and RPG Trailer.

There is definitely a market, and there has been a market for a long time, but the stigma about RPGs, and the "don't make me pay to play" camps were strong enough to keep paid RPGing to a small number, but in recent years this has been greatly improving, which includes potential for better overall standards. Right now the bar is terribly low, including regarding background checks, this needs to be improved.

There is also increasing demand for RPG Parties, RPG Retreats (friends and businesses), RPG BnB, and RPG Camps.

Of course paying for something that may be available for free does mean expecting a more "premium" quality professional experience, so GM's wanting to supplement their income, or go full time professional, should expect and treat accordingly as a professional in other fields, which means a higher bar for standards.

Also please take accessibility and inclusiveness into account when setting up your game location and equipment! Let's make these wonderful games available to as many people as possible.

Showing up unkempt in raggedy clothes or running games at your dirty noisy game store or kitchen table, is not professional, keep that for your casual games.

Lots of great entrepreneurs and opportunities out there, and potential optimal role-playing game experiences for people galore!

After helping Ben for more than a year and half, his dream is becoming reality, through revising designs, prototyping, many mixed experiments, and many hours helping develop this, thanks to lots of open source, with innumerable all-nighters from dedicated volunteer admins & developers (thanks to Jay, Hawke from RPG Research, and many others!), believing in his dream, some of the critical core components are now in place. There is much more work to do, but at last the beginnings of Ben Dobyns's vision from years ago has finally begun to tangibly take shape! Check it out!

The first day of our RPG, LARP, and Drumming program, "Battle Royale" at the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Summer Camp went exceedingly well!

The kids had a fantastic time. It was so nice to see them able to set aside their many stresses, pain, etc, and be out there having the immersive wonderful experience they had.

They wanted us to spend the night and the whole week providing services for the kids. Of course we had to thank them for the generous offer, but we are only scheduled for 2 days of services for them this year. Who knows, maybe next year. Tuesday was the battle focused adventure, this Thursday will be the Epic Quest adventure.

I have GBs of video and photos, however, for now, I will only be able to share the photos without any of the participants, pending approval forms from parents. We'll be posting video and photos starting today, for our Patreon supporters here: http://www.patreon.com/rpgresearch and then around 2 weeks after they will become available to the general public.

Happy Gaming!
