Hi there, These are some overdue comments from us. We were on Reef Encounter overnight on March 22, 2016. Ida is legally blind it want to thank your captain and crew for taking exceptional care of us. They were, without exception, warm, professional and compassionate. They took us out as a couple with a flotation device to give us commentary on the reef. The captain took us out on one tour and out on the glass bottom boat. Your staff created an atmosphere of acceptance of Ida\'s disability and allowed her to fulfill her lifelong dream of snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. Thank you for being there for us. Ida and Howard, Ontario, Canada

Stay on Australia's Best liveaboard here is what our guests say “INCREDIBLE!!!”

I had the most amazing time on the Reef Encounter. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to truly experience the Reef. This was my first dive experience after getting my open water certification and I don't think I could have picked a better way to do my first dives. The snorkeling was also incredible--you don't have to be a diver to have an amazing time on the Reef Encounter. I stayed one night on board and was wishing I could have stayed longer. The staff were very welcoming, knowledgeable, and friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat!

“A must do experience on the reef”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

Reef Encounter was the best dive trip I have been on. Apart from the reef being incredible and vibrant, the marine life abundant and the diving just excellent, the RE crew and staff were incredible.

During our few days, nothing was too much trouble, the meals were exceptional. The breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from to get your day started and you never went hungry at any meal.

The rooms, common areas and vessel in general was in good condition that just made the down time easy and relaxing. I was worried about what to do when not diving when I booked it, but really, that time zipped by in no time in comfort on the lounge chairs - which are so comfy you don't want to get up out of them.

Whilst the return trip was also in comfort, it was really the only part we regretted as we could have stayed so much longer.

We stayed with Reef Encounter on the reef for 5 days and 4 nights and it was probably the best thing we've ever done on vacation, bar none. If you are passionate about diving and or snorkeling and want to truly get away from it all, this can't be beat. One of the things that made the trip so awesome was the crew. They were some of most personable and helpful people we have ever met and were genuinely accommodating, doing whatever they could to make this trip the most memorable time ever. Rachael, the hostess in charge while we were on board had a great attitude and made us all feel as though she was happy to have us there with her energy and enthusiasm. Dive supervisors Macka and Matty (sp?) were always helpful and professional while at the same time being friendly and laid back. Dan the Geordie Man in the kitchen whipped up a great meal every time to the beat of his favorite tunes, which included a breakfast and lunch buffet with tons of food and plenty of choice, as well an evening supper service. Food was excellent. They were even gracious enough to accommodate a special dietary request. The list goes on, too many crew to list, but all were great and worked EXTREMELY hard to make everyone's stay fantastic. We also met many interesting guests from around the world that were eager to share their common passion for the ocean with us. Our room onboard was a private room on the main deck with a double bed and small bathroom and shower, it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. There were also shared rooms available with 3 bunks on the lower level that were cheaper as well as more upscale units on the the upper deck. The boat also had a large saloon combining the dining area with a lounge and bar as well as a sundeck up top and sitting area in front for watching sunsets or taking in the view of the reefs glowing in the sunshine between dives. Needless to say, the water time on the reef was superb, if is after all the Great Barrier Reef. When it comes to flora and fauna you will see it. Turtles, sharks thousands of fish of almost every variety and enough coral to keep you interested all day. We did two sites a day on Norman, Saxon and Hastings Reefs, and over the five days only visited the same anchorage once. Plenty of fantastic sites to keep you busy. We were limited to 4 dives a day of 40 minutes or less and even though weren't even close to any air or decompression issues and would like to have done more, we appreciated and understood the companies commitment to safety and professionalism and realized the awesome responsibility of having to keep track of everybody on the boat. In the end we left feeling we got more than our fill of spectacular diving. We feel that the value of this trip was well worth it. The cost worked out to about around $200 a day per person when doing the 5 day 4 night stay. Keep in mind this is not only diving, but essentially room and board as well, With day trips to the reef running a couple hundred dollars a day alone, a hotel room at $100-200, and eating out on the mainland not cheap, its an absolute no-brainer if you are there to dive or snorkel. We can't recommend this experience highly enough, we will remember it forever. Do it! You won't regret it.

Hello! I just wanted to say is that the crew onboard my trip were absolutely amazing. I have never met a group so dedicated to their job and to the people onboard the boat. Their passion for the ocean made me excited about the ocean as well. I always felt safe with Nigel at the helm; I don't think there's anyone I'd trust more to navigate us away from a storm, and he did it all with an awesome attitude. I couldn't have asked for a more supportive person than Lucy to take me on my first scuba dive ever. And Scotty never left my side during my first night dive, which put my worries at ease. The chefs went above and beyond to make sure that as a vegetarian I was well taken care of, and every member of the crew was so kind I felt I had made a new set of friends after just 2 nights on board. Best, Joanna
