Pro Tip for All Google Users - 2 Step Authentication
I haven't posted this in a while and it's time it got shared again. If you use Google in any way that you'd say My life depends on Google
then please make sure you enable 2-step authentication.
You may think it is inconvenient but really, once you mark your computer and devices as your private devices, you won't see the requirement of having your phone on hand to enter their 6 code password they message you.HERE'S WHAT PROMPTED THIS POST
Someone I know got their Google account hacked. They promptly went to their Google+ and deleted their account. Although the account is recoverable, all of their posts, all of their pages and all of their circles were erased. The amount of people circling account remained, but all of their work, gone.
This can get even worse. They can mess with your Google Adwords, they can mess with your Google Drive data and much more. Now, if this person had 2-step, they would only get to the first stage of accessing the account but would be prevented from accessing the account because they wouldn't know the 6-code passphrase to gain access.
Additionally, this person I know would have received the text from Google and would immediately know that their Google Account was just accessed by someone other than him. Promptly, he'd have notice to change his password and his account would continue to be safe.
