The #school holidays are here and there is no better time to keep active. We want our #children to lead a healthy lifestyle. We must also show them what that means, via encouragement, making time, creating #family time, and introducing children to a range of activities (including #martialarts ). Read on for a completely ... ahem ... unbiaised view for you and your family to remain fit, healthy and active these holidays. Enjoy! http://bit.ly/43active

"Quantum Q & A" with Lisa Halloran (Black Belt)

Q - What is your earliest martial arts memory?
A - In my first free trial class, I was up the back with my buddy and the trainer told the class to do 20 push-ups. It had been a while since I’d done some push-ups but I decided I’d give it a go. By the time I finished thinking that, everyone was back up and ready for the next challenge. I was hooked!

Q - What age did you start martial arts?
A - 48

Q - What is your favourite technique?
A - Love an effective elbow and how versatile elbow techniques can be.

Q - Who has been a big influence on your martial arts?
A - Everyone who stands in front of me and most of those who stand behind me – basically, the community of students.

Q - If there was one martial artist you would like to meet…dead or alive….who would it be?
A - Darren Higgs. Aha ha ha! (Daz's note - I hope Lisa means meet me alive. I had better watch my back ha ha).

Q - What is important about teaching martial arts to you?
A - Watching students discover what they’re capable of.

Q - Why would you recommend somebody take up martial arts?
A - To sweat, to get fit, to take a mental break, to meet good people, to gain assurance, to keep mentally challenged.

Jasmin and Bethany were all #smiles before their last grading. Coincidentally, they were all smiles after their last grading as well. They performed very well and are a great example of this week's talk on #kaizen (continuous improvement).

We wanted to share with you (with parent's permission) a very touching story of Ruby Atkinson and her battle with #cancer (more specifically Acute Lymphoblastic #Leukaemia). Not only is Ruby a true warrior for battling her #cancer, but she has a wonderful #family who have been there every step of the way. Ruby's brothers still train with us to this day, and show remarkable #maturity for #children who have been through so much. The YouTube link is as follows: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DsiR3s2eNuA

Alison performing her Multiple Defence...by herself...in front of her trainers and peers. To some, this may be nerve wracking. However, if you have prepared well, are #confident and retain #focus on the task at hand, you can achieve anything. And achieve Alison did, as she reached her next belt level. Well done.

There is a key to #martialarts success. Consistency! In fact, applying consistent effort will improve all aspects of your life. For those who have been consistent with their training, you will hopefully be rewarded at your upcoming grading or tournament. If you are not doing martial arts, #consistency will help you achieve anything that is really important to you. Click on the link for our blog...and go forth and be successful. http://bit.ly/QMAConsistency

#kaizen simply means "change for better". It refers to any improvement, large or small, that will make you better. Improvement should not be a one-time thing. It should be a continuous thing, particularly for the #martialartist.

If you are not challenging yourself regularly, you are not living life to its fullest. There are so many things that you can improve on a daily basis. Can you be a better spouse, parent, child, worker, student, martial artist, etc, etc? Of course you can, even if you are already good at all of these things. If you are getting better at the things you love, how can you not be happier and more contented?

Remember, you do not have to be the best. You just have to be your #best. You owe yourself that. Therefore, for this week, target one thing per day that you will try to improve.....then go out and do it.

There is difference between #motivation (i.e. having goals you want to chase) vs #commitment (i.e. applying yourself to a system that will get you where you want to be). Setting #goals in life is important, but they can take a really long time to achieve and we can easily overlook how we get there. One solution is to focus more on your system, instead of trying to stay focused solely on a distant destination. While goals are good for planning your progress, your martial arts system is where you make progress. Read on - http://bit.ly/QMAYGvsYS

#generosity can mean many things to many people, whether it is not thinking only of oneself, or giving without expecting in return. In today's busy world, it is easy to fall into the trap of focusing your energies on yourself, rather than the interests of everyone. We all know we should be kind to those around us, so make an effort to do so.

The best thing is that generosity can be really simple. Say hello to others...do a chore without being asked that can help a family member...hold the door open...invite a friend over for lunch...pick up rubbish...call a family member you have not seen in a while...listen to a differing point of view with an open mind...donate money or time to a worthwhile charity...the list could go on and on.

Generosity is a valuable virtue, but you still need to commit to being #generous. While this might take a little effort, the pay off is worth it. An act of generosity can simultaneously touch three people: the giver, the recipient and any other observer. This is three lives changed for the better with simple acts of generosity.

In today’s world, it is more important than ever to be generous. As Adam Smith noted in The Theory of Moral Sentiments: “People naturally desire not only to be loved, but to be lovely”. Don’t just have a lovely week, but be lovely this week, you generous souls.

As grading is this weekend, we have blogged on "Lessons For Your Grading...And Why They Are Life Changing". Gradings are are a celebration, not an inquisition. So many people do not have the #courage to chase and achieve their #goals. This is why martial arts gradings are so important for your self development. If you can commit to your grading, you can commit to other things in your life. Read on: http://bit.ly/2jQMAGrade
